If you're a girl...
Let's say your going on a date and after dinner his card declined. He's clearly embarrassed and can only afford to pay for one meal. So have no choice but to pay for it. The date was going great until this happened. Would you go on a second one?

You meet a girl, you agree to go 50/50. As you talk to her you realize that she's awkward and nervous throughout the entire date. She even struggles to talk about herself but she wants to learn all about you. After the date her card declines.- what would you do? Would you go on a second date?

For the first several dates, I insist I pay for myself. As I don't want the expectation that I am suppose to give him a kiss or more if he pays for me.

If I saw his card declined, after I paid for mine. I'd still pay for his, but expect him to pay me back. If he paid me back, then I could forgive and move on.

There is reasons, beyond lack of funds why cards get declined. I've had mine declined due to fraud alerts, I have to call and verify things and then it gets unlocked. Sometimes simple things will trigger that, like the same purpose at the same store twice for the same amount.

Yeah, it happens, I'll see a great price on something buy it for myself. Call my parents and tell them about it, they say... sure get us one, we'll pay you back and now it triggers a fraud a alert.

I'll do the same thing I've done before, I never let anyone pay for me on the first date... if we are in a relationship sure, but on a first date I pay for myself without question. I don't do hand outs.

If I then have to pay for them too as their card is declined, I will pay the whole bill so not to deal with the embarrassing moment of them not knowing what to do and make a decision on having a second date on whether they were good company. If I keep having to pay the whole bill, I might decide that a relationship won't work from this

-If anyone pulls out a credit card to pay then that would be an unwanted sign to me.
-If I was a woman 👩🏻, I would expect my man to have a money clip and be ^{|%~ ready to use it.
-if I was with a lady, whether good date or not, and she didn’t have her portion then not a problem. I mean come on, man-up. Whose going to date a guy who can’t manage a tank of gas, dinner bill.

Well it depends, if you are meeting up with someone for food or drinks and you do not know them well (like they aren’t a friend of yours).. it’s commonsense to ensure you either have enough money in your bank account or enough cash on you..
i remember catching up with a girl, not a date but a new friend who I had only met once before. After we had lunch she said her card didn’t work and she would give me the money later. I felt forced into paying for lunch but very unhappy about it because I barely knew her. If she was my good friend I’d say sure just give me the money later.
it’s extremely rude to put someone you barely know in this position. It can easily be avoided by checking you have enough money before the date. This is commonsense.

I've had my card declined even though I knew I had money in the bank. I finally figured out it was the little gold chip on your card. If you wipe it on your sleeve a couple of times it will work. However, if his card was declined I'd pay for it and he would owe me big time the next time we went out.

I would just pay for the meal, I know life happens. I’m not judgmental in that sense, it wouldn’t change how I felt towards them.. However, if it was consistently happening I would ask them if they wanted to do something free instead so they’re not feeling bad. (If it bothered them that I was paying)

Sometimes money’s tight and sometimes those card reader machines are pieces of shit 🤷‍♂️ If it was like “oh I’ll cover it don’t worry” and they rack up like $300 in bullshit, and then get all accusatory when they can’t pay it or don’t ever pay back, then that would be where I draw the line

Well, first of all, I tend to pay my own way, and I'm as likely to pick up the tab as the person I'm dating (guy or girl). (Bisexual here, glad to meet you...)

There's a lot of reasons a date's card could be declined. Once my bank account was emptied out by a korean crime syndicate. It took several days to get my money back. Clearly, if he (or she) has offered to pay, they think they have the money to pay. Nobody offers to pay with a card they know will fail.

So I'd pick up the tab, give him a chance to straighten out his finances, and give him another chance.

Sometimes it's not even their fault, could be fraud protection. Like there could be a follow-up text message to approve and it can take forever and it's already embarrassing when it gets to that point. Nonetheless should never take it out too hard on them.

One time I took my girlfriend to the mall with her little sister. I tried to take out money from the ATM so we could get sushi but the damn ATM ate my card!!! We had to get cheap soup instead.

I was in Italy for some reason my card got declined but I knew there was something wrong with the card and I knew there was plenty of credit on there. It was just that their paranoid being in a foreign country but they gave me free ice cream in Italy because of it two Big large cups. Cards are declined for lots of reasons, not enough funds is the main one but certainly not the only one. Besides being gracious is just part of my nature.
