I have a crush on my former teacher. What should I do?

Hello everyone, I'm over 20, and I have a crush on my former high school teacher, who is a few years older than me. He gave me his phone number, and we chat almost every day. The problem is that I got emotionally attached to him, and I developed a crush on him but he probably doesn't reciprocate my feelings. People usually tell me I'm pretty, but maybe I'm not his type. I found out he is currently dating his student, who is even younger than me and I find it inappropriate, so now he is a little disgusting to me because of his behavior, but I still can't stop thinking about him. I asked him personally if it's true that he dates his student, and he told me that it's true, but he doesn't know if he would call it dating, so I think it might be just about sex. I told him that I'm a little bit sad because I like him and he answered that it changes nothing between us and that we can still keep in touch. I'm shy, and I know that he used to flirt with those girls who are easily available. With me, it's different. He never flirts with me, he is very friendly, he supports me and offers help when I need it. He probably sees me only as a friend, but I don't know why he chats with me so much if he isn't interested. What do you think about it? Should I give it more time, or should I forget about him? The problem is that I can't fully break contact with him because we will have to meet each other a lot during the next school year.
