Why would a guy with a current girlfriend be texting a girl he used to flirt with?

He used to flirt with the same girl in the past just as he does now and yes he's always been with the same girl. With the exception that as soon as the other girl found out he had a girlfriend she stopped talking to him. It's been 3 years and he's still trying to talk to her.

Two reasons: one, his girlfriend hasn't set strict boundaries on acceptable behavior, and enforced it. Second, because he's bored and guys have a default to look for other women to have sex with when they're not consciously NOT doing that.
