I’ve said similar things to friends that I have intent on sleeping with.
Thing is I wouldn’t say this to someone I don’t know well unless I’m interested in them however if I’m close to them already yeah I’d lend an ear.

I can't speak for ALL GUYS but with me it's a sign of trust. Not necessarily romantic or platonic just of trust. a lot of it depends on her. Women KNOW guys like to be useful to women, to be problem solvers. So a lot of women play that wounded bird routine to the hilt. While I like to consider myself a good listener, anytime a woman shares too much too soon my spidey senses go off and I assume it's manipulation. In the past I would have said such a thing to any woman I considered a friend. Not so now a days. If I say such a thing it's only because I trust or consider her low risk that she isn't going to try to manipulate me.
More often than not it's a "nice guy" strategy to endear himself to girl he's into.
Other guys genuinely do it because they wanna be helpful, the way to tell is by seeing how much access it gives him.
Meaning opening up to an online friend you have over text is not the same as inviting someone to eat ice-cream in your bed while you cry on his shoulder
She's cashing in his breakup-sex chips. Unless he's a GENUINELY super-good guy and/or gay, men aren't good with that kind of emotional mushy stuff. Yeah, he's just trying to get it in.
Option D (no pun intended!) for the man in question, and option G for me. I'm willing to help someone who is going through some deep stuff and need a shoulder to cry on, but it doesn't mean I'm good at it, or a part-time psychologist to people. All I could do is provide empty platitudes and words of encouragement. Maybe it's cause I'm a sociopath? I dunno; empathy is hard.
It means that even if friendzoned, I want that friendship to mean something. I want to prove that I intend to be a valuable connection, not just another meaningless acquaintance. That even if I don't get to *have* you, in that sense, I still genuinely care *about* you. And want to know that I'm valued in return.
Alas, what I found is that when a girl says she "just wants to be friends," that can mean anything from "backup lover" to "I want you to jump into a volcano and die."
It's in how they keep their word that you find out their true meaning.
I said that recently... few days ago. She's my neighbour and she's going through a lot of crap and is very confused. We spent couple of sleepless nights together, talking. Yes, just talking. She kept opening up and apologizing for laying it all on me at the same time. I offered her some solutions to her problems and it looks like it's working.
That's it. I'm happy to help if and when I can. No, I won't take an advantage of the situation and... you know the rest... because I'm not a cunt. I don't know what kind of lowlife would try to take an advantage of the situation and get his 3 minutes of happiness out of her distorted emotional state.
Had many a call off female friends at 2am and it is genuine from me. I do care if they're calling me at that time and know they can. They're feeling vulnerable and need a friend. Physical attraction is the last thing on my mind in that scenario. Consoling, listening, advice, protection.
u when I say this... is usually because that person has trusted me with something they either wanted, or needed to talk about with someone, or with me...
so when I tell them that they can come back to me any time, it does mean that I am willing to listen and talk about it a bit, if they still need it or want to do that
and with me there are no other "hidden intentions or agendas" it is a genuine offer than stands for what it is...
It would depend upon the relationship status and goals of the people involved. When I say it I mean they can come talk to me about what’s on their mind or ask questions or if they’re really just looking for validation I’ll help out if I ethically can, but it’s different for everybody.
Tough one. It depends on all the situations. Many would say it because they want to know her more and be her man. Others are just concerned and want to let her vent it out so she feels better. I've said it before and it was both ways. Some I wanted to be their man, but most I was being a friend. Either way, it never happened. Lol

That's too vague to answer without knowing what is a characteristic of that person in question it could mean all of them even a well wisher can say those comforting words
For some guys it's totally used when he is hoping to get into her pants at some point and then there actually are guys who actually don't have an ulterior motive and truly want to console and help.
It depends on the guy. Some men are mischievous when they say that and some men are really genuine for conversation. If I said to a woman that they can talk to me whenever they need, I really mean it in a pure platonic conversation only.
I think their trying to say you can talk to them anytime your sad or unhappy because when me and my boyfriend Alex were still in the friendzone he told me to contact him anytime I needed a pick me up
Contrary to the female counterpart, some of us don't want to get in your panties at every interaction, and just want to have a prideful moment where we can talk to you about your problems, with no strings attached.
I'm a girl, but when guys have said this to me it's just because they are my close friend or family and they care about me.
Could be friendly honestly I don't wanna hear anyone's problems so yeah it has to be friendly.
Guys don’t say that unless they mean it. I would think they were probably brought up well.
