Why did my guy friend said bringing him a beer was a reward itself?

He asked me to bring him a beer from his fridge because he forgot to while on his way to his home office and said it was okay because me bringing him the beer was rewarding. Knowing him as well as I do, I don't think it was it was meant as a comment that's degrading. I wasn't offended by it. I was just curious by the context.
