Run into coworker stare and no greeting?

Anonymous

I have a male coworker who I’ve maybe spoken to once in person (actual conversation) and he was totally normal and polite and even messaged me after to continue a random topic we had talked about in person. But he usually has a poker face walking around. When we ran into each other occasionally he either was looking ahead so we walk past silent or if we made eye contact I would have said hey and he either said hey or maybe a nod (no expression). The other day I was coming in door he was coming out (I was surprised because didn’t expect anyone) so he was staring at me and i stared at him prob for a few seconds we both had no expression. I may have whispered a hi really quietly and he looked down at the floor and we went past each other. Super awkward.., I’m super intimidated by him. But I know he’s actually very social and always hear him laughing with the guys. Does he hate me for some reason. He’s really polite if we’re ever emailing about anything. But when running into each other in person it’s like he just can’t say hi or smile - isn’t it common courtesy? It just makes me dread ever seeing him alone and I never know whether I should just ignore him or smile/say hi as you would anyone else.
