He initiates the texts but never responds?

So there’s a guy I met during the fall semester. There was a point when I was interested but I couldn’t tell if he was because I’m oblivious. But after talking to some friends they said he is interested but just shy. In person when we talk in class it’s fine and pretty easy until he starts texting me. He will text me first I’ll respond then he looks at the message in a second but says nothing. Which I think is pretty weird especially if you’re starting it. I’m trying to just forget about him but when I do he reaches out and then I’m confused again

I have the same problem but it's a girl and she starts snap conversations then after I reply, takes hours or days to reply and I don't get it either...
