Guys, Awkward, or crushing?

There are a lot of questions on here that are like, 'he told me he loves me. What does this mean?' I'm trying my best not to make this that kind of question, but for all I know, it is one, and I'm an idiot. The last time a guy had a crush on me that I was aware of was in kindergarten, so I'm not entirely sure how to read signs that aren't glaringly obvious, especially when they're contradictory. There is a boy I am acquainted with, he's sixteen, and not emotionally mature enough for me to consider dating, but there were some behavioral signs he showed that made me wonder if he had a crush on me, and I'm curious to know if he does, or is just weird around me because I'm a girl.

For the most part, whenever I have ever been to his house (our parents are friends) he's stayed in his room and has never approached me to start a conversation, which gives me the impression I'm irrelevant, which is fine. I've been friendly to him, but not overly so. I have social anxiety so I'm not that eager to start conversations either. But the few times we have talked, or been in a conversation together with other people, I noticed he starts swearing a lot at his younger brothers for no apparent reason and talks very generously about alcohol, sometimes sex, in a way that gives off the intent of trying to seem cool. But, the one time we actually did something together, him trying to teach me a card game, as soon as one round was over, he decided to leave it at that and went back to his room. There's not much actual evidence that supports the idea that he might have a crush on me. But I do get that sense whenever I'm around him and wanted to know, guys, if you sometimes go into avoidance mode around someone you like? He's the classic, shy to the point of rude, plays video games in the basement, and likes cats teenage dude you can find anywhere. But the contradicting behavior is bothering me, and I wish I could just know what he's thinking. Do some guys hide instead of trying to get close?
