Why does this guy keep following & unfollowing me?

We were friends with benefits for a short time when we were both 16, and then I moved away and we remained regular friends, we’re now 21. Last year he got a girlfriend and she supposedly made him unfollow all women on Instagram. They broke up a couple months ago and since then he keeps sending me follow requests on Instagram (my account is private). I accept them and then a week later he unfollows me again and then re-requests to follow me another week later. It’s happened 5 times now over the last 2 months and I’ve started deleting the follow requests. And then today he sent me a friend request on Facebook. What is his deal? He knows I’m in a committed relationship so I don’t think he’s trying to get in my pants, but what’s with the following and unfollowing of my account, and now trying to get to me on Facebook?

It's clear that he's checking if he still have a chance to get with you. It isn't healthy when you're already in a committed relationship and he doesn't respect that so you should stay away from him. Every time you accept, he feels that he still have a chance to access your life. If you're not following him back and simply accepting the follow request, then he might be indicating it as a sign to let you understand that he wants you to follow him back. Neither is healthy. When he chosen other girl over you, he lost you. He should lose you. He will not deserve you anymore. But when you allow him to come back after he walked all over you by disrespecting and putting you down before another girl, then you make yourself look vulnerable. Even his girlfriend will start to have less respect for you. So respect yourself enough to walk away from this toxic cycle and never let him use you or play games with you again. It doesn't work that way
