My friend *Jack* has started ignoring my texts and avoiding me now that I’ve started seeing someone. It seemed to me like he’s interested in anyone significantly younger than him and female. What’s going on? Am I going to lose his friendship? If I do, is that a bad thing? He has embarrassed me on a number of occasions by being stupid.

We don't want to be your friends. A lot of guys will pretend they want to be your friend so they can hang around you and potentially smash, I don't endorse this strategy. You seeing someone has made it clear to him that he won't be getting any from you. So now he is moving on to someone he feels he has a chance with. He was never really your friend to begin with, he was an orbiter.
