Why would someone avoid the opportunity to say goodbye just to send you a guilt redden email/voicemail after the fact?

despite sounds silly people like to play victim even if they arrange it. i recently met two ladies who each complained no one helps them... but when i asked what kind of help they blocked me... only because then they would not be able to play the victim.
