Why does my coworker want to know when I will be in the Office if we currently don’t work together?

4 months ago I started a new Job. There is one coworker who is very nice and charming to everyone but who barely acknowledges me when I‘m there. We currently don’t work together and He does Not know what exactly I‘m Doing.

He noticed that I was Not in the Office Last Week and inquired via Teams when I would be back, how Im Doing and if I needed any help. Why does he Even care and why does he Act indifferent towards me in Person?
