It's a long trip for you to make and he knows it. I'm sure he's considered that he may have Covid and doesn't want you to get it, just like he said. I'm a nurse too and I understand, this would be hard for me too, but I truly believe his intentions are pure, even if it grinds your nursey instincts.

You need to learn to take charge and just help when he's being stubborn, even if he puts up a stink about it. If you're a nurse he probably caught the infection from you carrying it home from the hospital anyway, and the only reason you are asymptomatic is all that time spent building up immunity from your job.
