Guys, guys Does he genuinely miss me or is he trying to see how far he can go?

I was talking to this boy for a little bit and everything was cool, but then he randomly walked past like like he never even met me one day and acted nervous when I confronted him. I pretty much ended things the next day and haven’t spoken to him since whenever I see him in person.
I also unfollowed him but he keeps watching my stories and still follows me.

Recently I went out to a party and saw him there and we didn’t speak really but he texted me the next day pretty much trying to check on me to see if I was okay. I opened it and never responded but I finally texted him back today and immediately texted me back. Then when I saw him he came up and make conversation and looked genuinely excited and happy to speak to me.
I always catch him making little glances over at me anytime we pass by each other. I just want to know if he genuinely regrets his decision or if he just wants to see how much he can get away with?

I am the one who decided not to talk to him anymore. I mean regrets his decision as in he feels bad for playing in my face
