My boyfriend is total drama queen, why he does it?

Question

We had a little argument and he said he is not ready for rrlationship and wants to be on his own.

I said how can he say it if 2 days ago we had amazing time with my whole family, i introduced him to them also we planned oyt holidays a month ahead.

Then he just bursted into tears saying he doesn't know whats happening with him he feels down and depressed.

Said he doesn't wanna break up...

I said :i was about to go get my car and leave , you know!

He said : I wouldn't let you go, id stop you.

So can someone explain this to me from psychological point of view:he says he doesn't want to be with me but when i said i was ready to go home he said id stop you.

What the hell is this?

He is in Limbo, he wants you but he doesn't! Sounds like his "software got corrupted". He doesn't even know what he wants for real. Sounds like a momma's boy, that he cannot leave her side no matter what. This is a person with massive Ego, he is scared to be Alone/Single, he is Lost cause i'm afraid. He cannot stand on his legs and Take his Own decisions, looks like he is with one foot on the ground and one foot in the hole, so if you want to be a "mom" then be my guest, if you want to be a girlfriend/Partner/Wife, you need to grab him by the throat (just a metaphore) and smack some sense in him. Otherwise You'll be the Man of the House and he will be the "lady of the house" 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

It’s called manipulative behavior and controlling behavior. My ex use to pull that shit with me as well, basically one minute they love you and want to be with you and can’t wait
To be with you , but then the next day or so they change their mind and act like they no longer want to be with you and say negative things to you , so you walk away and then they come chasing you back telling you not to leave , that they don’t want to lose you and that they love you or care about you , My advice is to not go back once you walk away

Was it a "little" argument? If it triggered some haunting experience in Him, it might have meant much more to Him. While stating that He's not ready for a relationship might be His own understanding of the situation, He did nit say He wanted to break up, but to be on his own, though I don't think it would help, when people enter the downward spiral of pessimism, staying alone is the worst they can do, even if it seems like it'll be easier to collect one's thoughts (they might get collected, just point towards suicide or something similarly drastic).
