Answering a girl while in the battlefield?

Hi everyone, I'm from Ukraine. My crush whom I've known for forever has been texting me from the battlefield (short texts saying he's fine) while ignoring everyone including his fam (I know this cause they've told me, and no they did not fight with him so there no reason for him to ignore them). Does this mean he likes me? He does show he's super interested irl. Am I just an option for him or could he answer me just from politeness

I can only imagine he's in stressful, dangerous situations and occasional chats with someone with which he's familiar and has shown warmth previously are grounding and soothing.
