Why would guy like a girl for 8 months and not tell her?

This guy told his girl best friend he likes a girl 8 months ago, he didn't told her who is that girl. Few days ago I hear his girl friends again asking him about her. He didn't want to tell them who is that, and when they insisted he started to make things up. I assume that that girl is me, and I also like that guy. He told his friends that he doesn't have anything with her. He treats me differently than everyone else and also acts weird around me or just ignores me. So maybe its not me, but I think that chance exist. Why he didn't do anything about it all this time?
