I really don’t mean any harm by this question and I don’t necessarily have an issue with it but I’d genuinely like to know.
I used to play video games myself but I grew out of it. Why do men still….
+1 y“I used to play video games myself but I grew out of it. Why do men still….” -Asker.
This isn’t even a question then since there are ladies who play games for fun solo outside of gamer girls who need it as a source of income / those that play with their boyfriend for close fun bonding time together.
Also it depends on what your definition for a game is, if it is a block filled open sandbox where you can use your creativity to build your own structure or just go out mining with friends than that will seem like a kids only kind of fun… On the flip side to your coin, Red Dead Redemption II is an ‘M’ rated game meaning 18+ due to sexual themes/references, drug usage, alcohol, violence w/ blood, use of explicit language, etc. which can fill up to 100+ hours of gameplay in deep rich story and meaningful character interactions that will tug on your heartstrings. The point is, games can be for children, teenagers, adults, etc. and it is normal for people to grow out of a particular interest and move onto the next whether due to less time to do the things you used to do for fun or whatever those are individual experiences. Please don’t judge men, women, girls, boys, etc. for choosing to do an activity that brings them joy especially since video games don’t hurt anybody.10 Reply

1K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. Video games: Guys love video games because guys like challenges and competitions. Video games give guys a challenge in a game that seems more easy to achieve than many other challenge in real life. So guys start it and use it as a coping mechanism for failure in real life.
DC/Marvel is something some guys are obsessed with since the prototypes of superheroes like Batman or Superman or Spiderman are the exaggeration of what many guys want to be in a relationship. They are strong and dangerous towards enemies and rivalries, protective and providing towards the woman and they hide their superpower for the right moment. In short they show off character traits many guys like to have though it's an ideal.
Guys buy those dolls and figurs because they've grown up with comics of those characters. Many grow out of it while some stay with it because that's their main hobby from childhood.

Thanks for your insight, this was very helpful
+1 yI don't know about games, but I'm also semi obsessed with DC/Marvel. When you love something, you want to show it off. I have merch for DC, mostly Batman and Nightwing because those are my favorite characters. Superman, too. For Marvel, I have so much Iron Man stuff. It's nice to look at, nice to show off. I used to have a Hawkeye shirt I would work out in, best thing ever.
I'm also obsessed with Star Wars lol. I like good stories and action. Most men do as well, it captures the attention of people and draws us in.00 Reply
+1 yIt's escapism, just like how many women indulge in the romance genre. Both video games and superhero media focus on the POV of the masculine ideal: tall, powerful, rich, muscular and stoic. Watching Captain America save the day can feel just as vicariously rewarding for them, as we feel when Noah and Allie kiss in the rain. Oh, and especially when he built her a house.
As people, we obsess over what we desire and what we cannot have - superpowers, Ryan Gosling - it's all the same, really00 Reply

+1 yI have no Idea about DC and Marvel. I can't stand either of them. I would have to say the liked it as a kid and keep seeing it through the rose tinted goggles of nostalgia.
But video games? Ooohhhhh yes. Its a near perfect medium for escapism and getting lost in an enthralling story. Exactly the way many ladies love their romance and dirty books.
Video games are also an outlet for angst and anger. They're also a method to socialize if your life is usually taken up by work and other responsibilities10 Reply1K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. I still play video games even at my age. I also have a degree in video game design and even though I know how the magic is done I still play.
I don’t think it is something that you out grow. I think it is the competitiveness, the will to win that drives a person to play. Some people are more competitive than others are.22 Reply- +1 y
I’m sure directors of movies even though they know the process of movie making front to back don’t say “I grew out of watching movies” since that is a very weird take.

He wasn't allowed to go out after school so he started gaming instead.
I grew up with two brothers who had a ps2 so I joined them.
We play the same games so even when we're not together, we can still interact with each other and call for hours on end.
And he's a cute guy, but I don't have to worry about him cheating because I know where hebis at all times.10 Reply - 2.3K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic.

Anything I enjoy, have fun doing, that is not illegal I will continue doing as long as I feel like doing so. Guys enjoy DC and Marvel because it is fun to watch and an escape / fantasy.

+1 yBecause video games are fun and a great way to escape from reality. Same can be said for DC & Marvel stuff, but it's the characters and story that they like. I'm personally more of a DC person though. For Marvel I like Deadpool at least. I love video games even though I don't play them as often.
00 ReplyAt my 36 I am not playing as much as used to, but gaming is mainly male hobby, what was you playing a family or farming simulator? it's not serious games like grand strategy.

Frankly I don’t see it differently than movies, tv shows, etc. since all those could be seen as “I grew out of it” since there are movies/tv shows dedicated to a kid audience… This is the dumbest question I’ve seen.

Also why only these things, why not worry about baseball or cars?10 Reply - 1.8K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic.
+1 yObsessed? I enjoy DC and Marvel (my given name was influenced by William Joseph Batson aka SHAZAM!), but I am not obsessed with either. I was never a big fan of video games. I am obsessed with guitars.
But some choose those things you names as hobbies. As long as they take care of business it should not matter how one unwinds.00 Reply Do you still listen to music? Why? Do you still read books? Why? Do you still use a TV? Why? Do you still use a computer? Why? If you can figure that out, then you know why guys play video games.

Nah I am good, I don't need to wait to be in denial that age is getting to me and my life is fundamentally worse because of it to proclaim I am wiser than everyone else because me boomer.
That's just a person in denial and nothing more.
Aging is gonna suck, I have the brain to know that and accept it but you know what don't suck? Things that bring me enjoyment and entertainment.
+1 yDC/marvel is something I've grown out of but I play video games and they all are the same thing, it's entertaining and it's a good time killer. Sometimes they tell really good stories too

1 yVideo games really just an escape from reality for me. Most boys I know play a lot of video games, most of them because they have some hardships in life and they just want to feel some relaxation every now and then. Some play games for that feeling of satisfaction and excitement once in a while.
As for DC/Marvel, I’m not really a fan of it so I wouldn’t really know much. All I can say is that it’s probably something we’d like to keep in our minds as a childhood memory.

1 yto get away from reality. we have a bunch of mental stress with only acking from good homies. if we open up to the wrong friend, and they turn it into a bit or some shit, it hurts, really bad. so we do it as a way to just forget it all. at least for me.
