Why do men cheat?

Question

I was hit on by a man who’s already got a girlfriend and wants more sex. Why do men stay in relationships if they’re unhappy? Why cheat? (I said no, wanting more and also not wanting to help him cheat and he was annoyed).

“I was hit on by a man who’s already got a girlfriend and wants more sex.”, Okay so first reason someone cheats (man or woman) is no control of lust / partner not satisfying sexual desires enough. Their love for their life partner is not strong enough for their desires, the partner probably expressed they don’t like sex however the cheater doesn’t want to see them gone since they love them too much to get let go…. Though lust is pretty strong.

“Why do men stay in relationships if they’re unhappy? Why cheat?” Could be they feel that they can’t express themselves to resolve the issue in a meaningful way that benefits both parties, feel as though if they say something they’ll be seen as ‘weak’ or ridiculed or they simply love the partner yet still do stupid mistakes involving their libido. Thinking with their pussy & dicks more than their head & heart.

I would not be surprised if in most cases the woman knows her boyfriend is a cheater & knew what type he was when she first got into the relationship. So it's not really a surprise if the guy is the same as he was when she met him.

And I thought women were the masters of staying in situations they don't like... until they find another guy to monkey branch to, setting up the second relationship before ending the first.

Anyhow, not all men cheat. I've never cheated in my life. Have I ever done something stupid tho, sure. But not that.

The men who cheat are overwhelmingly a member of the most popular/attractive 10% or so of men, and because about 80% of single women are all chasing this same 10% of men to the exclusion of all other men, and because a sizeable portion of these women would rather share one of these men then "settle" for a man outside of the top 10%, it's quite easy for top 10% of men to cheat. They have nearly unlimited options with women, so they have lots of options. And because it's so easy for them to get away with it (their wife/girlfriend doesn't want to lose their prize man, and the side chicks are perfectly willing to be side chicks), they cheat and usually have a history of cheating.

Women could vet the men they date and commit to on their morals, values, and life goals, but that would almost always mean that the hot, popular guys that she finds so attractive would be eliminated, and, well, she's not doing that! So, most women choose to date cheaters, and just hope they change (hint: men don't change).

And when a woman chooses a moral man with good values, her friends will hassle and shame her, because he's not good looking enough or not successful enough or his job isn't high status enough or whatever - and most women won't stand up to this sort of shaming from her "friends."

It's in men's nature to sleep around and spread their seed, and the only thing that stands between a man's strong instinctual drive and his actions are his morals and values. Since most women don't and won't vet men for their morals and values - and in fact, find men with low morals and values attractive - then you shouldn't expect this to change.

Because they are selfish just like girls’ can be selfish as well. He more than likely doesn’t really love or care about his girlfriend, he just likes the convenience of her , something is missing from his relationship with his girlfriend, my guess is intimacy and affection , she probably isn’t as sexual as he is , so he is looking for someone else to fulfill that for him , He basically wants his cake and wants to eat it to. He is a selfish POS person that only cares about himself. This sort of thing happens a lot more than we like to think it does , Males and Females’ do this sort of shit because they are selfish people that only want what they feel is best for themselves. So just because you didn’t have sex with him? , he will find another girl that will. And it will be just a matter of time before he gets busted and ends up single again. Now if he was cheating to replace his current relationship than that would be a different story , yes it’s still wrong , but not as wrong as going back to his girlfriend like nothing happened and lying to her face that he actually loves and cares about her , now that is wrong and completely fucked up , but if he ends his relationship with her and tells her he met someone else , at least she has an answer as to why he is leaving her. I cheated on a girl once when I was younger , and I immediately ended it with her because I knew I was wrong for what I did , I felt bad and felt like a selfish person , so I told her the truth and ended it with her , shockingly she wanted to give me another chance but I said No , that she deserves better

Doesn’t mean he’s unhappy. Men just want a variety. Not always all but a lot of men do. Many men don’t have that ability to draw in a lot of women like some men do whether he’s cute or has money. But guarantee if a lot of men could a lot of them would be like a kid in a candy store. A lot of times sex w other women isn’t about his feelings for you or his partner, it’s purely a physical thing you may really never understand as a female. I know completely different comparison but imagine being told to pick one pair of shoes as a woman that you’re going to wear the rest of your life. Might be a stupid comparison I know.

Modern times is a flash in the pan compared to our evolutionary history during the 3 million years of the Stone Age. Therefore, we still have our Stone Age brains. During the Stone Age, the winners are men that impregnated the most women and thereby produced the most descendants. Men that would not invest a few minutes to have sex and possibly impregnate a willing woman are not our ancestors.

The fact that men will have sex with willing women does not in any way imply they are not happy in their relationship.

Funny years ago I had a girl tell me in college that “I got a bad feeling about this guy I am dating. He might treat me bad or cheat on me. But I just have feelings for him…..”. Like she was so powerless to have zero control over her “emotions”

Men cheat because it’s often women who ENABLE these kind of men. Not all of them but too many. They chase the “challenge” of think they can “change” them.

Also women have a horrible inclination to hit on and/or pursue taken men. They automatically assume just because he’s in a relationship means he’s of “higher value”. This screws up everything on so many levels: taken guy gets more tempted, his girlfriend/wife has more paranoia, single men get ignored, etc. Most men don’t think that away about already taken women.

I think it’s the mismatch between some guys and their girls: an insatiable sexual appetite vs a willingness to have sex for relationship maintenance.

And, sometimes, it’s an insatiable sexual appetite matched to a desire to use sex a tool for control —that is always a recipe for temptation.

I tell these types of guys to communicate it first, then work on getting in better shape, then end the relationship if things aren't working out. They don't want to listen though. Men primarily cheat because they are missing the emotional connection with their woman. Men feel emotional connections through sex... just being 100 percent real. So... most men cheat because they are not receiving enough sex. Many women weaponize sex against men and men have to fill their needs elsewhere. Men do the most logical thing by outsourcing the sex to someone else.

Men stay in relationships because we invest the most into them. We invest financially and emotionally more than women do. We aren't trying to leave we are trying to solve the relationship.

Reverse that. Why do women cheat in relationships? The reasons aren't much different. Both genders feel they are missing something. Whether it's just physical or emotional based, the result is the same.

In my personal experience, I've met or known many more women who have cheated than men. The men's reasons almost always centers around the spouses refusal for physical intimacy while the women's varied from "just not happy, needed missing excitement or I wanted to experience x, y or z."

Women have hormones that make them act crazy during their monthly cycles.

Men have hormones (mainly more testosterone) that gives them a stronger sex drive than women, so they are always on the prowl for more sex that is more fulfilling.

So the short answer is, men cheat to get more sexual satisfaction.

Women on the other hand cheat to get more emotional satisfaction because they're hormones make them more emotional.

There's no sense looking for complicated answers when the answer is this simple.

Doesn’t have to be unhappy. He might love his wife a lot, maybe she doesn’t like going down on him or she refuses to do doggy or she has cysts in her vag. (Happened to a girl I almost dated seriously) maybe he married her because everything was a great match except for the sex.
