A Boss has authority because he needs to run a business, possibly his own. A boss not to have good knowledge of running a business and the general affairs of the company.

Teachers need to manage a classroom full with 'rebellious' students and thus need authority to exercise control. A Teacher of course needs to be well versed in the subject he/ she is teaching.
