That’s a difficult question to answer. I think it all has to do with age and how you emotionally evolve. When you’re younger, I’d say 16 to 20, your interest in girls is quite intense. You are on a discovery trip, you meet all these girls at high school and university that spark off interest. It creates attraction with some of them, which in turn can lead to friendship or sexual interest. One of my relatives compares it to a carousel ride, you hop on, meet new people and get off the carousel ride. I’d say that, emotionally speaking, it’s more like a roller coaster, the one that gets you really high up there, speeds up like crazy and you’re scared and thrilled at the same time, thinking of what’s ahead. Not sure why you ever wanted to get on in the first place. The roller coaster will eventually come to a stop and you’ll get off, not sure what it all meant but happy for living the experience.

Once you get over 20, you settle down. That doesn’t mean you start looking for your life partner, it will still involve – at least in my case – going through multiple relationships. They get steadier and steadier over time. I don’t believe in one single life partner, the one where you say “This is the woman I’ve been waiting for all my life”. For me, there have been three. One was my second girlfriend, the one who shattered my heart into a thousand pieces when she broke up with me. Another one is my wife, I’ve been with her since my twenties. There is a third one as well, but that’s too personal to describe here. Someone I love, but will never be able to be with.
