Not a guy, but my general feeling about pads is they're there to sop up period blood, or errant urine and it would be best if you're getting sexual to remove a tampon or pad before the action starts.

Don't think it's the pad itself, I think it your period that's the issue. Lots of women, not all, are not much in the mood on their period. Quite a few guys are squicked out by periods, not all. They might also be scared of all the horror stories they've heard about PMS. It might help if you let them know that you aren't opposed to activity during your period. Now he might be, but I'm not sure of that
