It's tough to tell sometimes. But if you learn how to read body language and tone of voice, it gets easier to distinguish genuine people from disingenuous people.

Especially in their earlier years, people who are physically attractive and socially intelligent (speak well, clearly and come up with quick witty responses) are usually popular with inflated egos due to the amount of people that want to get with them. They develop the assumption that getting partners is easy and in turn, getting into bed with others is easy.

Not all of people that are physically attractive and socially intelligent think like that. But a good number do. Which is where reading body language and tone of voice comes into play. It's not a surefire method of filtering genuine from disingenuous people, as some people are really intelligent and good at acting. They know how to play others.

That's why they say you should stay away from bartenders and actors in dating. Because they're good at putting on a facade.

He's popular and gets lots of attention from women. Good looks are obviously one reason for this, but money and status are other common reasons. For example, maybe Dad is a bigwig at the local stadium and gets backstage to all the shows - he doesn't have to be ultra handsome or wealthy to be popular. Likewise, the gang leader or one of his top lieutenants will have high status in his neighborhood because he has power.

The next sign is his past. Either he won't have had relationships - just one night stands - or he'll have cheated on all his past girlfriends. If he's slept with most of his girlfriend's friends, he's a player.

And last, if he only talks about how hot you are or getting you alone, and he's not talking about your future together and questions about long-term compatibility and life goals, then he's a player.

Somebody that will tell you everything you want to hear for their own game somebody who seems to have it all together but they don't play they will ask you to do things and once you do them they'll kind of drift away if you take longer to do them they'll try to do more and more with you they will know exactly who you are and they will talk your language you will try to be somebody that they're not and you should be able to read right through it they'll look you into the eyes only for a moment don't brag on themselves so brag on you but you can tell who they are you can feel their energy as they're talking to you and the way they look at you remember communication is not only just with the mouth is with everything if you pay attention to everything you will know they will tell you in their own way
