Well... It is mostly because the true, purely Catholic (or otherwise religious) marriage has become all but forgotten - which is partly the men's fault, if You think about it. When speaking about marriage, most people in the West are now thinking of the state-sanctioned parody of marriage.

Now... The state-sanctioned parody of marriage is basically a prolonged suicide for men as things stand now. They have 50% chance of getting divorced (and that's just on average, in most left-wing areas it will be much worse). Now, a divorce comes with the loss of 50% of all shared possessions to the ex-wife, which are usually mostly the ex-husband's possessions from before the marriage. And then, there's a high risk of additional false charges to get the ex-husband in as much trouble as possible, just like what happened with the Amber Heard-class life destroyer and Captain Johnny Depp.

Now... All of those threats do not apply to the true, purely Catholic marriage, but even if it wasn't basically forgotten, there would still be a fat chance of convincing a random Western woman to have a true, purely Catholic marriage, since for the more naive, the media have convinced them it is anachronistic, and for the more calculating, they know it will not give them a way to basically legally rob their husbands at some point.

    The following reasons stand out

-a wife has so many legal rights

    -commitment is required

-impossible to cheat on a wife without severe consequences

-impossible to leave wife pregnant or as a single mother without severe consequences

-most husbands not allowed to be polygamous ( for example Hindu men aren’t allowed)

-a woman can’t be used for sex and then left to fend for herself or labelled a “whore” as she keeps looking for her long term partner while getting used for sex

-an “ugly wife” can’t be discarded for a “beautiful prostitute” without severe consequences leaving the money-minded thug bankrupt (the only way he could care is if he loses money he uses to attract those prostitutes)

-he can’t keep his relationship “secret” from the society so he can treat a woman who is superior to him and a wife material like a 2 dollar whore

-many evil women are almost using marriages and lawsuits against men about sexual assault they never faced as a way of making money without much effort. It’s almost like a source of income even when it can protect good women from mistreatment

-an evil husband can’t deny his wife basic rights or food, clothing and shelter if she’s completely financially dependent on him

-he can’t have sex with 2 dollar whores in his wife’s bed without facing dire consequences taking away his most precious possessions like his money, car etc. that can help him advertise himself to more prostitutes

Women are horrible. Sorry but i have never met a woman who had been all in for a man. They rather leave them. Men are ride or die. All the men that I have seen with invested wifes were all toxic men. But i am not toxic or a dick. Maybe a nice guy. But i rather focus on carrier then a woman who i have to learn game and be toxic for. Ultimately the person they see as a friend vs someone they fuck is so different. I happen to mean a feminine and submissive girl who is sweet and caring. That would be the mother of my future kids. But with feminism rising there are non left. Hoeing around and disrespectful. Promiscuous. I mean come on. A man will not marry a retired hoe who used to shake ass in the club. That is not a lady. That is a whore. So i believe people should start to shame inappropriate behavior to shape good women. Social media has allowed women to have infinite amounts of options also so she pick the best. Like I am not an option. I am a choice. If someone has 10 people in line. Fk of respectfully. I focus on 1 person instead of sleeping around like my zipper is unzipped. Love to me is a choice. Like i am all in for this person. I would ride or die. Like this love is not there anymore. So no thank you

Marriage is like a hurricane there is a lot of blowing in the beginning & when it’s all said & done your house is gone. Men aren’t afraid to get married but nowadays we would be stupid if we do. When a man says I DO down the road we can say GOODBYE to half or all our stuff during the divorce. As for me I have never been married & if truth be told there are so many horror stories out there it wouldn’t benefit men nowadays to get married. Truthfully from what I have seen the bond between two people is better without marriage. GUYS DON’T GET MARRIED, DON’T DO IT.

It's a long term commitment and one they might regret, is easier to have a foot out the door to run if gets uncomfortable... if we've seen how other men suffered. Fear. In essence, they've not been raised right.

I'm married but it took a long time to get past fears and wife helped a lot. It's timing... right place and time, and person... to make it work.

From the point of view of the government, a marriage is a business partnership with lots of very legally binding consequences that in most states overwhelmingly favor the woman over the man, and family courts are further biased in favor of the woman. Unfortunately, none of those terms are disclosed when signing a marriage license, because if they were, few men would ever sign such a one-sided contract. The men's responsibilities are reasonably easy to calculate and enforce, so they are enforced by the state. Women's responsibilities are poorly defined, difficult to measure, and almost never enforced by the state.

If the laws were flipped in favor of the man, would any woman marry?

When you have to pay for a product, you obviously want to make sure what you're paying for.

It's free having unlimited sex with a girlfriend. He can easily break-up for anything, have one foot out the foor at anything. Or leave her pregnant but still break-up, leaving her a single mother. Sure she can still collect child support but she's a single mother and her dating pool of suitable men for marriage has decreased. Her market value dropped.

On the other hand, if they're married... he can't just divorce because they're arguing for the 2nd time, she did a lame prank on him nor anything trivial. Well he can but it's going to be a process and will cost money. He no longer has the option to just freely walk out the door at any moment for the sake of it. Marriage protection from men like them that would've bailed out for anything if he were just a boyfriend.

Anyone wants free benefits without responsibilities and less are willing to pay.

Because you can be a great girlfriend, then you get married and what happens. 3 weeks after the wedding you inform him "no more blowjobs". 1 year in sex is down to once every 3 weeks, if you feel like it. Also you've quit your job because it wasn't "emotionally fulfilling". Notice, nobody cares if he's fulfilled, he's just got to keep you living in the style you expect. You may take a part time job making half or less of what you were, but you're still spending like you were still working. Then you have a kid or two, more financial responsibilities for him. Then you're 5 years down the line and decide he doesn't give you enough attention during his mad scramble to keep all the plates spinning, so you dump his ass, take off with half his assets and keep him from seeing his kids while you're now blowing a 25 year old tennis pro in the car he paid for. Yeah, sign me up for more of that.

ALL men are not afraid of marriage. The rate of marriage has actually been increasing the past few years and, for the most part, that reflects a trend in heterosexual marriage (in which each woman getting married is matched with a man who is getting married.)

SOME guys are not ready for marriage. Some with mature and eventually become ready, and some won't. But if a guy is not ready NOW, it doesn't matter why. If you are looking for a partner for marriage, just walk past those guys and keep looking. Those guys who aren't ready. . . you're not going to change them and any such efforts are, at best, a waste of time.

It is simply not financially viable anymore.

The median length of marriage is 8 years before that happy bride unilaterally divorces you. At that point - in the best case - you lose half of your assets. Fathering children is equally a dud deal.

I think the 8 years is the time it takes to pop out the median 1.8 children and get both into elementary school at which point the wife can re-enter the workplace. The husband was only useful during for financial support during stay at home mothering phase.

In my country now, once I clock over two years in a relationship she can go after my assets as if we were married.

So I'm dumping at the first anniverary dinner from now on.

80% of divorces are initiated by the woman, often citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason. The judge then throws the husband out of the house, makes him liable for the mortgage and limits his access to his children. So many wives then get bitter because they realise how much he actually did and go back to the judge who then penalises the ex-husband to the point he's working two jobs and living in his car to pay "child support" she then spends on luxuries for herself.

With almost half of marriages ending that way, why are you surprised fewer men take the risk?

We have all seen that marriage can be insanely costly, and (frankly) the women we have to choose from don't behave in ways that justify us taking that risk. They simply aren't those kinds of people.

And just so we're clear about where I stand on this subject; I want and expect women to do the same analysis for men they're about to marry.

If I'm going to take on the huge risk of marriage. If a woman is going to take on the huge risk of marrying me; I want both of us to be able to clearly and logically justify that investment.

I am distinctly uncomfortable taking that risk with people who haven't cultivated the character traits I want to see in a life partner.

@msc545 Yeah, right now the legal risk is basically entirely put on men. I'm hoping the laws change to reflect women's increased earning potential, but I don't think that will happen until the old guard of judges retire. Maybe we'll see change sometime in the 2030s.

@msc545 I never understood the white knight thing. I know the psychology of it. It's just... strange. You'd think the first response to watching someone flip out at someone else would be to think "I wonder what led up to this" instead of going into guard dog attack mode.

Its been answered numerois times below but I'll reiterate: Men are not afraid of marriage, they fear divorce and isolation and shame.

I am not sure why anyone gets married unless you have a legal need to do so. Men stand to lose half, regardless of the breakup scenario. Why sign on to this?

A few years back a good friend of mine discovered his wife having an affair with her therapist ( red flag if they need therapy all!!!). She cheated while he busted his arse providing for his family. She got half his retirement, half the proceeds of the forced sale of their home, and he has to pay monthly child care and spousal support! All this piled on top of the shame, disrespect, and disloyalty. Comical!

When men cheat and we see this outcome, we say they get what they deserve. Yet this is the same outcome for him if the wife cheats!! 🤔 Wow.

Not all men are afraid of marriage. Many men look forward to it.

    Consider this...

    1. 50% of marriages end in divorce

    2. In most divorces, the wife ends up getting better treatment than the husband, who has to pay alimony and child support for years.

Those things can make someone think twice about marriage.

It isn't the marriage we are afraid of it is the wedding part of it that is daunting.

Feminism. Women thought having sex before marriage would be empowering, but it has only gotten rid of the main incentive for men to marry women. Especially when our society has embraced the idea that the state has any authority to conduct a divorce and they have adopted the idea of no fault divorce. On top of which divorce courts have adopted rules to favor women. What man wouldn't be afraid of marriage? Especially if he doesn't understand that marriage is a religious sacrament; and that any state that has constitutional protections for religious freedom has no authority to conduct the dissolution of any marriage.

Because 90 percent of the time its the woman that initiates the divorce. Sometimes it can be as simple as: she is bored. Of course some are more complicated than that. Thats just my personal fear. The possible fickleness of her after 20+ years she decides she's no longer interested in being married.

Simple... For a man there are no benefits in marriage compared to being not married. Divorce does have a lot of financial impact for every man. Therefore the downside weights heavier on a scale then upside of marriage. There it's not in a men's best interests to get married

Men are not afraid of marriage; they are afraid of divorce, because half of marriages end in divorce, women file 80% of them, and men get screwed in divorce court and child custody settlements. If it weren't for that fact, men would be getting married at far higher rates today than they are, despite the fact that today's marriage does not offer most men as many benefits as marriage of the past did.

Well said bro , that's exactly what happened to me ( years ago ) never saddled up again , and was the only time in my life I had ever been depressed , its just felt like absolutely everybody was against me , even the State , and certainly the child support agency , thank fck I got though the other end , started again , got aggressive and managed to really make some money $$$$ .

I was basically assumed to be a wife beater ( which I certainly was not ) , but they throw in all this other stuff , worst period of my life and I well understand why younger guys will not get married , and I'd also say to every man " never marry anyone poorer than you , no matter how good she may look " .
Its not just USA , certainly Australia is same , Japan seems better , I dont know about Europe , but Australia its seriously Fcked. After doing the right thing you get bent over and fcked up the arse , by everyone pretty much.

    Divorce laws.

If a wife breaks with marriage contracr and purposefully leaves she shouldn't be rewarded for it.

    They are.

If they cheat and destroy the contract... they are rewarded for it.

I don't think they are afraid of marriage. Just don't won't to risk paying alimony and child support.

Probably because the divorce rate is so high and it's usually the wife who initiates the divorce.

Not afraid, just coming to realise the freedom lost by falling into one is worth more than the risks of being in one.

9 times out of 10 it means you have to give up at least half of everything you own if she decides to divorce you.

I'm not, I'm afraid of rushing into marriage unprepared. Taking care of someone else and children is difficult and dangerous, I need to armor up first.

Feminism killed the advantages of marriage for men, this is why so many men are opting out. It's not fear, it's not hurting himself.

Because they worry about whether they will be able to manage all the expenses. They love you, but when they think about finances, they get worried and need some time to sort things out.

Marriage is a Government Institution. The Government is only out to steal from people and that's all the institution of marriage is about, Stealing.

Some of us are not afraid, but rather once burned, twice shy.

I was married and divorced and consider it the worst mistake I made in my life. I will marry again, but only to the RIGHT woman!

Divorce. You could potentially lose at least half of what you own. Stats show women initiate Divorce more than men. The system is biased against men.
