Crossed a boundary and had sex with colleague, now he's acting really cold?

Help me understand. Over the weekend I called a colleague (have been working together for 4 years) after leaving a wedding to meet up for a chat. Mostly because he's in the area and we've met up before for a coffee etc.

So I phoned him to meet up and we went for a drive. We ended up parking the car overlooking the bay area to have a cigarette.

He tells me he thought I called him for sex and feels unsure about what is happening. Also tells me people at work think we have something going on, because we meet up casually regularly. I tell him that was not the intention- I just wanted some familiar conversation after the wedding party.

Eventually he starts holding my hand and we kiss and start cuddling. It leads to sex and afterwards he then mentions he's falling in love and have been waiting 2 years for a chance. Afterwards he was quiet and it was a bit awkward for both of us. We haven't spoken since and its been 2 days. He avoids me at work and doesn't even acknowledge my presence. Is this the end of our friendship? Why act like this?
