Male and female mate selection criteria are different. Women do care about guy's income but men don't care about women's income. IQ is a good predictor of likely earning capacity so women are selecting for it..

Given strong female desire for these attributes, it almost certain that a guy will end up paired with a woman that isn't as smart as he is.

All the more so, because just as men don't care how much women earn, we also don't care how intelligent she is. There are far more important attributes to us.

So it is not that men like stupid women, it is more that we don't care. We're happy to provide the smarts in a relationship.

Nope, I like deep discussions. I met a stupid girl last year, I was already dumbing things down. I am not sure this is true but I have a theory for why people think it is true. I think there are some people who may feel like “I am not pretty or popular, but I am smart” (which may be true or may just be how they feel) and that personality type can be kind of defensive about the reason they might not be popular, so to them, it is because “guys don’t like smart girls.” But it might really be something else. Prob. most guys want someone fun to be around, not like a robot stating facts or calculating equations or whatever so girls who guys like will more likely have outgoing personalities.

I think in the long run guys do value girlfriends or wives who are smart and help them avoid mistakes or plan for the future, but when meeting somebody in a bar, they will more likely talk to somebody they think is fun and cute. JMO!
