Guys, Do you really get turned on by (feminine) gals who know enough about sports to watch a game and make a few basic comments?

Those who know me get that I'm a super straight shooter when I talk, but I'm very feminine in my manners, style, etc.

My guy friend's jaw drops when I start talking about velocity, air quality and other factors that impact sports with aerodynamic elements... specifically out in Colorado, which is regionally impacted by its air quality.

We're at an event and I'm standing there in an elegant gown and heels like a 1920s cover girl, he's in a tux just staring.

He said in a million years no one would believe him if he told them what I was saying in that moment.

I laughed and said that was just silly. Most girls know at least a little something about sports and physics. No biggie.

But suddenly I noticed a few other times this summer... I tend to get very bemused responses and attention from fellows who are "delightfully surprised and entertained" by the fact that I know a little something about sports. If a game's on and I know the team (baseball, basketball, etc.) I'll watch for a bit, perhaps get a little excited... and if I make any sort of joke or comment about the game it does tend to turn a guy's head. Why? It's such a random thing.

One of my younger gal friends dragged me to a spot with a lovely outdoor area and an indoors area where we're surrounded by giant screens. Our home team was playing, so I glanced and commented that our team is always behind.

She looked blank. "Who's our home team?"

I laughed, thinking it was a joke, but to my astonishment her wide-eyed vapid expression remained. So I started explaining to her.

This prompted the guy next to me to turn, smile and offer me a drink.

After asking really ridiculous things like where the penalty box and dugout on a standard American basketball court were I realized it was an act, so I stopped and just watched the game.

She sighed, looked bored and turned away. To her other side were two guys visiting town who bought her drinks all night... bc poor baby can't understand basketball, right? (Smh.)

I've never cared for sports myself. I love playing them, but watching them has always bored me even when I was a kid. I never understood what was fun about watching other dudes play with a ball. Sure, highlights were cool to watch. I always enjoyed that. But other than that, nah.

I was pretty competitive too. I played soccer at a high enough level where I traveled abroad to play. And I was one of the top athletes in track at my school.

But honestly, I found it more entertaining to watch stuff like Master Chef or America's Got Talent than sports.

So a girl that's not into sports is definitely not a negative to me.

Similar interests or at least knowledge of the interests is generally what draws people to each other.

I got into it a LITTLE in college because my physics professor was a big sports fan and talked about different ball games and velocity/trajectory/etc. The little geek within started going to home games on campus and it was actually interesting, though not so much that I sit around watching a pro game too closely. If I'm somewhere and the game is on I'll glance to check out the score. I won't spend the afternoon in a stadium, though.

It is usually one extreme or another and when it's an act guys can see that a mile away. Super Bowl parties are the worst for those imposters. They all come out of the woodwork once a year for that game. I'm a big NFL fan, have been since I was about kindergarten age and sat on my Dad's lap while he taught me about the downs, scoring, penalties, etc. It was a gradual leveling up in knowledge. By the time I got to high school I watched every weekend.

Actually I have the best superbowls though I barely follow football. My two nephews come over and remind me all the positions and why the little lean guys are there vs the big refrigerator-sized guys. It’s my fave bc I get to spend the day with them. I think they just come for the snacks and to hear funny stories about their parents during the commercials.

Some guys are so into sports, if you're an attractive woman with a modicum of interest, he's going to fall head over heels. It's simple.

Most guys have a passion, all you have to do is be curious and supportive, ladies. That's all a reasonable man wants.

Too be fair, attraction isn't a choice. If you're hot and talking about things a man is interested in, he's probably going to notice and like you.

I dated somebody who was the quarterback of a woman's semi pro football team. She was a real sports fanatic. I am not much interested in sports. It got tiresome after a while. All she wanted to do on the weekends is watch football.

She was only 5'3" and easily the smallest person on the team, it is just that she could throw a football better than most guys that I know.

"SNAP"! My gym teacher (a retired cop) taught all the gals to snap a ball while the little band of nuns glowered disapprovingly bc they considered it unladylike. Lol.

5'3? Her arch must have been insane. I'd love to see footage of that.

I am sure there is footage out there somewhere but she played long before we had cell phones. Her father was an engineer at the local TV station and I would not be surprised it he commandeered some equipment and took some video.

Nah. They probably watch more sports than I ever would. I only occasionally watch hockey or Formula 1. Occasionally Le Tour de France, too. I’d be surprised if they followed any of the latter two.

I'll try to catch Day 1 of NASCAR/TdF if I'm not working, but I can't stay glued, you know? Anyway as a kid I was told to learn enough about a topic to be able to contribute to a conversation rather than to stand around looking like a guppy. (The "like a guppy" always makes me laugh a little... imagine?)

The few times I would watch NASCAR, was for the final few laps. I get it. I used to religiously get up to watch the Tour in its entirety.

You will see this happening in most cases where anything that is generally a passion for guys, any gal showing interest or knowledge will immediately spark the attention and attraction.
