Why do some men lie about their height?

Because men are often are pre-judged by our height. In the digital realm, in order to get into the ball game and to even be seen by you, (Mind you, i don't feel this way) I assume, men feel the need to mitigate this issue. Because if they aren't 6'1", they don't get a seat at the table. If that is what you are filtering for, fair enough, I feel the same way about a woman's weight.

To quote one of my favorite ROMCOMS:

"Sara: I heard every word. You're a scam artist. You trick women into getting...

Hitch: Into getting out of their own way, so great guys have a fighting chance!"

I don't condone lying because it only ever hurts both people in the end and wouldn't you want to not waste one another's time? Personally, I think its great to have both height and weight on websites. I'm 5'5" and at my age, I don't really care one way or the other if I am rejected for my height as long as you act like an adult in your response. You're either for me or you aren't and vice versa. I think that's just fine and I will extend the same respect to you.

For the exact same reason women lie about their weight, age, and looks, and get fillers and other surgeries and procedures.

In the US, only 14% of men are 6 feet or taller, yet nearly all women want a man to be at least 6' tall. What are the other 86% of men supposed to do? They are invisible to most women, and on dating apps, most women have then filtered out because they can.

If women were required to post their real age, weight, and bra size, and men could filter them out, it would be an International emergency and every talking head on TV would be screaming about it, and how shallow men are and how unfair it was to women and how oppressed women are - but when women do it, it's "just a preference" and not worth talking about.

In that environment, are you really surprised that some men lie about it?

Some men lie about their height because there’s a lot of pressure around it. Society makes height seem like a big deal, and some guys worry they’ll be judged or rejected for something they can’t control. It’s often more about insecurity than trying to trick someone.

But the truth is, lying about your height or anything physical isn’t a good idea. Eventually, the truth comes out and it creates awkwardness or mistrust. Being honest from the start shows confidence and self-respect. And honestly confidence is way more attractive than adding two inches to your height.

This goes for women too nobody should lie about their appearance, weight, age, or anything else. Relationships can’t grow on false starts. When you show up as your real self, you attract people who appreciate the real you.

At the end of the day, honesty builds trust, and trust is worth more than any “perfect” number someone feels pressured to meet.

I know few guys in real life who prefer to not reveal their heights to girls (met them online) they liked for a long time, but never heard anyone lying about it. I'm guessing it's insecurity. They probably feel women prefer tall guys, so some of them feel the need to lie hoping she'll appreciate him for other things and when they meet, his height won't matter.

I never lied about my height, but I was 6'1" in 6th grade and 6'3" by 7th grade. Before people even get judged for their height I was taller than most fully grown men. So there was no reason to think about it, let alone lie. I assume they see how women look at guys that are tall like me, and they want that and think they can lie to deceive women, just like women wear make up, push up bras, fake nails, dye their hair color, wear fake eye lashes, wear contact lenses, get fake boobs, on and on and on... Quiet frankly I don't know why the average women would expect anyone to be honest to them. It's a two way street, so if you aren't being honest yourself why would you expect anyone to respect you enough to be honest with you?

Some men lie about their height because they feel judged before they even get a chance to show who they are.

Dating apps and social media made height a weird currency like being under a certain number automatically makes you “less desirable.”

So instead of facing that bias head on, some guys add an inch or two just to avoid being filtered out.

It’s not really about height.

It’s about insecurity, pressure, and wanting to be seen without being dismissed on sight.

I mean... When women drop the 6'3" lower height limit for men, men will stop getting bone lengthening surgeries. It's all about finding a partner, girl! Also, if You use makeup, You are basically the same, only with men, the surgeries might actually cause pain.

It seems obviously because most girls like tall guys, so lying gives them an immediate advantage, and not a lot of people are dedicated to honesty or integrity. And exact height is something that's a bit difficult to judge on sight, so the guys could probably get away with lying a little bit about their height forever. Or if they lie a lot about their height, maybe they're hoping that the girl will come to like them enough that by the time they find out their real height, it won't be such an issue. When you hardly know anything about a person, the few things you do know, such as height, can have huge, disproportionate consequences regarding whether you even give them a chance.

Generally people lie because they want to get something that they can’t get with the truth, or they want to avoid something that they cannot avoid with the truth.
Things like height, for men, and weight, for women, seem strange to lie about when it’s so obvious to others at first glance.
Maybe they’re hoping that the lie gets them through the door and their winning personality keeps them there.

Makes zero sense. If someone rejects me for being too short or too tall… that’s a good thing because I don’t want someone whose like that anyways.

Not to say people can’t have preferences and standards…. But someone’s going to find out about my height later on anyways. So… move on.

Just… seriously a lot of times being rejected isn’t anything bad about you and a lot of times the other person. You’re not compatible…

I've never heard of men lying about their height unless they are now because woman want taller men but I don't think that's a thing 😉. Now some will lie about their penis size hoping the woman won't pull out the ruler and slap it if he lied lol

I new a guy that said he was playing the odds if she thinks he’s 5’9” then he could seal the deal or at least get a shot. If he came out with The truth he was 5’7” then he would get rejected 10X more often. Definitely worked to. He always wear boots.
His wife is 5’9” and she admired if he hadn’t lied she would have never gave him a shot.
I think they ended up getting divorced it’s been a decade.
