Why does he always pull out his phone/pretend to use it?

When we bump into each other, and if we're both headed in the same direction we'll walk together, but half way through he'll always pull out his phone and pretend to use it? ... this this mean he's not interested? or that he's nervous?

i used to pull out my phone when I was nervous, I never really knew what to say, or how to overcome shyness.

it's possible he is the same, if he doesn't avoid you then I would say he jyst runs out of stuff to say.

if he approaches you at times he could be nervous.
