Why does my guy friend keep looking at me ?!

He is my nice friend we go to college together so I see him a lot anyway I have noticed that he keeps looking at me all the time! For example today we were standing in a group of friends I was talking to another guy and he was talking to someone else too but the whole time he was looking at me ! And when ever we are standing in a group his eyes are always on me anyway I think he had a crush on me before because the first time we met we was all nervous could not say 2words together but I thought maybe he is nervous around people he don't know very well ,he always offers to help me or give me a ride home although we live far from each other anyway can someone tell me why he keeps doing that?! Sometimes when we are talking he looks so deep into my eyes and in the middle of our conversation he would look diwn and smile I always wondered about that!

I do not know what to do should I ask him or that would make him uncomfotable I really do know how to deal with him!
