Is a lack of confidence a permanent turn off to a guy?

like once when a guy complimented me and said ' I looked nice" .. I said " I don't think so haha, but thanks :) " ... I know this was a bad answer and now this guy never talks to me again. Has it turned him off for good?

DON'T shoot yourself in the foot by putting yourself down to a guy. He's ready to lavish you with attention and compliments? LET HIM. The time will come when the romantic haze wears off those rose-colored glasses he's wearing and he starts to see your flaws for himself. Bask in the sunlight while it's there.

I used to do that sort of thing, so I totally feel your pain. You've got a self-effacing personality, so someone says "Great boots!" and your first gut reaction is to say something like, "Oh, thanks, they're really old." or "Oh, I borrowed them..."

yeah I know how you feel :/ ... I wish so much I could have just said 'thanks' :( ... but I had to mess it all up lol... now that guy is gone and probally won't give me a compliment any tiime soon again

I don't mean to be a douche or anything, but don't even try to get a boyfriend until you fix your insecurities. If you don't, that'll be a recipe for co-dependency and you're just going to bring your loved ones down with you. You owe it to you and your future partners to fix whatever it is you're insecure about so all of you will be able to live a prosperous life, free of worries.

Shyness isn't really a turn off, but I do find it very annoying when a girl can't take a compliment.

It usually comes across as fake modesty to be honest, which is why I don't like it. It's much better to just accept the compliment and say "thanks". Also he could be turned off for any reason, or maybe he met someone else.

yeah I understand that now :) , I really wish I could have just said thanks! ... I'm so annoyed about this :/ ... cause I actually would have liked to get to know him better, but now after this that prob won't ever happen lol

Like I said it could be for any reason, it might not have been this that put him off. If you like him that much just go talk to him. I know you're shy but just try it :)
