Depends on situation and the girl, there is no rule for girls. But usually I don't lost the opportunity, I think you should pay attention to the conversation in the call, may be you will get the answer.
All females are genetically programmed to fall for guys who try the hardest for us. So yes, at some times, we say the opposite of what we really mean. But we dont do it to start arguments, at least not all the time, but to see if you care enough to ask for the truth

Yes we learn it from each other. Little girls will hear stories from an older girls and when she grows up shell tell stories too, and the cycle continues:)
OMG, if you like her talk to her.. she is interested. It is sometime hard to tell if a girl is testing a guy but if you do get confuss talk it over with a close friend who is a girl. But, most girls usually test a guy when they are in a relationship with that boy. And no it will not make you look desperate, but it will show her that you are interest in her. Now if she tells you to call her but she calls you first that a plus for you, but do take it slow no girl like to be rush

Do men? It depends on the person. I like to be direct but that's because I am emotionally intelligent and articulate so I can communicate what I mean well. Some women, just like men, can't.
Women do test men, a lot. Secretly, without them knowing. But in this case.. giving out a real number and saying to call her probably isn't a test. If a guy asks for my number in a club I either decline politely OR, if he won't leave me alone, I give a fake one. But... If I am genuinely interested in a guy I give a real number.
The trick she's probably playing, is ignoring your calls. Doesn't wanna look desperate, so she ignored the first few to keep you on your toes.
When a women say this, does she mean it?:

i just say what i mean... sometimes i can come across a bit cold if i don't like someone but would you prefer that or a fake number? but anyway as i said i just say what i mean.
She's elusive. She's probably one of the "walking wounded" who's been hurt in past relationships, or can't get the guys she's really attracted to to talk to her so she subconsciously sabotages or avoids potential relationships in the present. your association with her will be one of utter frustration She's a mixed messages queen. Save yourself some disappointment and don't get involved with her.
Maybe she was busy or she didn't want to seem desperate either. If she called back then that means she definitely wanted you to answer. Your not going to seem desperate to her. Just go for it and call her back

any person saying things to test another person is playing mind games and needs help. any healthy person will see this immediatly and run like hell.
Sometimes, women give their number out knowing they're not interested in the man. I'm guilty of doing this. I suggest you stop calling her and continue living your life as you Did before meeting her. If she's interested she'll return your call (s)

not all the time but some girls don't want to hurt a guy so they say something but they mean something else.
Sometimes yes sometimes no you have to tell threw her eyes, look for that bit of hope if its there it's a lie (in specific situations)
When I'm upset I always tell the bf to leave. I never mean it and wish he would walk outside for a minute then come back in and sweep me off my feet.
IMO: Girls say the opposite of what they really mean UNLESS you really want them to mean the opposite of what they say IN WHICH CASE they mean what they say. Clear? No, me neither.
