This has nothing to do with liking their body type. I mean leondaro Dicaprio... Seriously? What woman isn't into him? And it has nothing to do with his body.
It has everything to do with the fact that all of these men are rich, powerful people. If a woman actually likes a "dad bod" on a regular guy, they're usually insecure about themself and "like being the slim/attractive/petite/whatever other quality they can come up with one" in the relationship.
I disagree. I have been attracted to a variety a guys. Most commonly without abs. Generally not hugely overweight, but not over muscly either. I know this sounds cheesy, but a guys personality is really what makes them attractive to me.
If a guy's personality is what attracts you, then his body is not what attracts you, it doesn't matter if he is a little overweight, as long as he isn't morbidly obese.
@Bards Ya seriously, like saying women are attracted to Leonardo dicaprio because of his "dad bod" is like saying Hugh Hefner's multiple wives married him for his personality... We all know neither of those are true.
The dad bod to me is being a full grown man. When I came out if boot camp, i was 6' and 185lbs. Now I am 200lbs and I eat and drink what I please. I still feel quite fit. I hike many miles a month and do things like carry a 50" TV this week down a set of stairs and 50 yards to a truck to move it. Enjoy life, it is short, don't spend it all at a gym.
Some girls will say whatever just to fit in a damn trend. I'm not attracted to the dadbod. I'm not disgusted by it, but it does nothing for me and it's not a body type I'd drool over. I think vocally praising this average ass body is going to make some men think they don't have to try anymore
You can have a "dad-bod" and be in good shape really. There are NFL linebackers, much heavier than the "dad-bod" and they're strong and have tremendous stamina.
Besides, it's their preference, so how can you say that's "ridiculous"? You can't help what you're attracted to.
I agree with the whole guys in the NFL reference, but the thing is that they train to get where they are. I wouldn't necessarily call them Dad Bods though. Guys with "Dad-Bod", not so much.
@CincinnatiRedsfan Simply being "heavy" doesn't mean you have a "dad-bod". I know plenty of very big guys (both height and weight-wise) who are very active with firm bodies. Both of these guys are big but they sure as heck aren't out of shape:
@CincinnatiRedsfan If that's you in your profile pic I'd say you fit in with the heavy built guys I gave pictorial examples of above, not the flabby "dad-bod" trend.
@HuckyHucky That is me in my profile picture. I agree, I don't think I fall into this "dad-bod" category, since I have way too much muscle and I go to the gym four to five times a week (I do cardio too.) I'm a little fat on top of muscle. Unfortunately, this stupid definition thinks it's for ANY guy with belly fat.
Hmm, I'm not saying I wouldn't fall in love with someone with a dad bod. I'm just saying, if I was told to choose an ideal male body I wouldn't choose a dad bod.
It actually is. "Dad bod", from what I could tell, started with a study that looked at what features women found most attractive. Once it came out that "Seth Rogan" was most often considered the ideal body, the "dad bod" craze took off.
Read all the relevant work, those women are just insecure (and even anthropologists say women like to be desired more than they desire) they aren't more attracted to it, they want to be the more desired one in the relationship. "The study also looked into the reasons why the women poled preferred a Rogen bod to an Efron one, and the findings had to do with the women’s insecurities. 74% of the women surveyed said that they didn’t want a perfectly-chiseled men in “real” life because they would feel self-conscious about their own bodies while getting naked in front of them. It’s not, then, that they wouldn’t rather look at someone like David Beckham flexing in his underwear, but that they don’t want to compete with that level of fitness or feel threatened by its perceived perfection that could only serve to highlight their bodies’ lack of said perfection." from the study you are talking about, also read my post about the article the take is talking about.
well, its a body, i have kinda a dad bod, but not ridiculously like that, it's weird though, i mean, i could have a six pack and girls still wouldn't go out with me if my personality was crap and i just beat everyone up all the time, i think its alright, but i would say its more about character and personality for girls and guys alike rather than pecs or purse.
ehhhh not my thing. It especially seems unfair that women are expected to be super toned and tiny while for guys "oh hey I look fine as is, but women you'd still better look like models."
sometimes I find it attractive. but mostly I prefer thinner guys with big shoulders.
with respect, that dmeand to be modells are created by two groups. women, and douchebags. Douchebags are never happy anyway, so ultimately it is reduced to you being your own worst critic.
Sure, we want you healthy, but beside that there's too much variation in prefference for your claim to be remotely legit and justified.
actually, society/media (in which men have significant power) teach women that to be desirable they must look a certain way. so yes, within that framework women are their own worst critics.
also, it was a generalization, just as I doubt all guys are fine with having the "dad bod" look.
given the above there is nothing illegitimate or unjustified about what I said.
well, for starter, you put the blame on men, when in truth it is women and media. Thus, you can say "fuck that" and it will change nothing. Guys will still want you just as much as ever, and the only difference is that you're rid of the impossible beauty standards.
So yes, is it hypocrisy to say the standards is caused by men.
And let's not forget this whole dad bod is just a fad. Give it 3 months...
are you aware that men are involved/influential at the highest levels of media? they are, after all, corporations. (I study this stuff.) Check out a documentary called Miss Representation. @dartmaul15
are you aware said men are in it for the MONEY? If they could make money selling sand in sahara, they fucking would! They have planted that ideal to make you women less happy about yourself, and thus buy and buy and buy their products. it's called creating a need! No, look at the average man, the man you find on the street. Do you really think the CEO of a makeup firm would say "yes, i find it completely reasonable that girls should stop wearing makeup entirely"? REALLY? REALLY? Welcome to capitalism.
Women are at the top, men are at the top... I'd love to see a firm with only women. That'd be interresting.
TL:DR unless you're dating the CEO of such a firm, you'll find that most guys in real life don't give a flying fuck about those standards as long as you look healthy and fit their prefference. There's not one prefference above all! There's no magical look that will get you ALL the guys!
Either you have horrible luck with guys, or you need to look arround.
Not every man expects a woman to be thin or a model. Usually the model type are preoccupied with making sure every aspect of their body and wardrobe is perfect and don't have attention left for anything else. Life is not perfect and we all have flaws. Men are hard wired to like big breasts, wide hips and narrow waists, and women are wired to like broad shoulders, narrow waists and tall guys. It's an evolutionary thing and it's hard to escape so it is what it is. But what companies found is that the human subconscious minds could be hacked and that's exactly what they did. Most models you see in magazines and screens are nothing short of impossible models of the real thing. So for a while now women have been spending money to become the impossible woman and men are spending money to mate with the impossible woman. From personal experience, women who are confident in their body and don't worry to much about flaws are much more fun and make much better sex.
I just woke up so not too coherent but what I am trying to say is that media (currently) says it's ok for men to look one way but women another, and what the media says tends to trickle down into the cultural subconscious. Similar things happen with race portrayals (disproportionate coverage of black-male-perpetrated violent crimes --> widespread subconscious concept of black men as violent). I guess I assumed that people understood that I meant the cultural/media standard/expectation for beauty (which often becomes the individual standard - just look at the comments on this site). TL;DR - I'm not saying that all men are one way or all women are. I'm saying that media sets a very difficult standard for women that trickles down into how many women perceive themselves, and when media starts setting a very different standard for men, that seems unfair. @dartmaul15@mateus
hm, that's very much true, media try tends to define what society think. Because society are brainless sheep. Just look at this "dadbod" fad. Who started it? How did it spread? And WHY did women over the night start drooling for the dadbod? Also, is it really more manipulative to define the dadbod as the "perfect" and best man, than it is to define the healthy and fit woman as the "perfect" and best woman? Both are dictated by media, and both are being forced on us. (as for your racial example; no smoke without a fire, and if it quacks like a duck and acts like a duck it's probably a duck)
@dartmaul15 to a large degree (although they might protest that label - I prefer "ignorant") - and as for the racial example yes and no, media tends to take the extremes and amplify them because people watch those things, as opposed to boring reports about how things actually are. Not saying individual stories are inaccurate, but the reporting patterns tend to overrepresent: black men as perpetrators of violent crime; white women as victims of it; etc.
let me search for the meta analysis study (way more interesting than it sounds lol)
May i add "gullible" too? Beecause both this fad and what you just said about media proves that people seem to be quick to beleive the shit they see on TV. Yes, the portrayal of black people ar exagerated, yes it's good that we're not obsessing over being super fit anymore... BUT statistically black people are a lot more likely to be involved in most forms of chrime, and it's also better to focus on being healthy than trying to acccept unhealthy bodies.
And that brings me to my main problem with the "dad bod". Encouraging unhealthy behavior. Aproximately 50% of American adults are fat (i anyone want it defined; it means you're medically defined as overweight, or worse). And you see the trend all over the west. I beleive both this "dad bod" and the "fat acceptance" is just ncouraging an unhealthy behavior. Sure, it's good to stop the insanely healthy ideal, but we need a middle ground. We NEED the "normal healthy" as the ideal body, or else things will get ugly fast
well about the dad body, you simply go to the beach and see if girls ask to touch the flabby belly of the dad body or the bumps of a hard rock six packs, and you realize the truth. About the dad body, it isn´t that females like it, but that majority of men have it and so majority of girls doesn´t have a lot of choices on the matter, but if there was at least 20 % of men with fit bodies and abs then you would know what girls really prefer and it´s not hard to guess at all.
I don't think I qualify for a "dad-bod." Why? Because I work out too much. I do have a little bit of a belly on me, but I have huge muscular shoulders, arms, calves, and a barrel chest. So, I could trim some fat from my stomach (which I am actually) but I think of the "dad-bod" as SLOPPY fat as opposed to "fat on top of muscle."
Are you sure you're not saying that because other people are? The dad bod is just another internet fad gaining traction after all. I don't see anything wrong with the body type but the fanbase can be annoying and opinionated just like is the case with plus-sized female stuff.
I still prefer 'em ripped but I know that's hard to sustain all-year-round, so fine by me I suppose.
Honestly I've never been into the "dad bod" and this is my first time even knowing the term. I have a "mom bod" no stretch marks but my hips are much wider than before. However as we all age we all go down right lol. Great take!
It was never hot and it's still not hot and will never be considered hotm Women are fucking dumb to support this dumb trendy thing. Do you see men supporting mom bods? No I didn't think so.
Actually, THERE IS A TREND FOR MOM BOD. Except it's not necessarily called women bod, The common slang term is MILF
Also, before you start talking bad about how the MILFS are really smoking bodies in the pornos and start comparing. Stop. Porn does that to everything. Dont compare to porn. Porn is fake. It isn't reall life. Pizza men dont just show up to your door and offer you their sausage.
Of course I know porn is not reality. But the mom bod trend has been started by WOMEN as a respons on the dad bod trend. MILFS are good looking older women with great bods.

LOL he does have one.
But I'm only attracted to him in his movies because they make him look good. Outside of that he's been looking horrible lately

What an odd world to live in where being out of shape is praised. How ridiculous.

I personally love heavy built guys, but "dad-bod" is just lazy and out of shape, plain and simple.
@HuckyHucky I agree, but that's not the definition of this "dad-bod." I have a belly on me too but I do cardio lift, and I have huge muscles as well.
I think the "dad-bod" should be distinctive from "fat on muscle" and "sloppy fat."
@CincinnatiRedsfan If that's you in your profile pic I'd say you fit in with the heavy built guys I gave pictorial examples of above, not the flabby "dad-bod" trend.

So hot 😍
well hellooooo
Hiiiiiiii
Here's one lady who isn't fueling the dad bod craze (even if it wildfire was lit by a fellow Tiger)
If I'm being selective about male bodies, this isn't what I'm going after.
Also the idea on how to get a dad bod is... stupid.
If my guy gets his body by binge eating pizza and beer, then no thanks.
But when you grow up you will be selective about more than a body. Most of us thought like you when we were 20. Things change with time. :)
Hmm, I'm not saying I wouldn't fall in love with someone with a dad bod. I'm just saying, if I was told to choose an ideal male body I wouldn't choose a dad bod.
Yeah... no thanks. I don't find them to be attractive at all. They don't need to be "ripped", but I don't like any fat/flubber/gut at all.
None of the guys listed are even remotely attractive to me.
@gagTake
"The majority of women (NOT all) on the internet are loving the dad bod."
and I'm sure that is backed by a scientific study.

@amphet11 Oh really? I didn't know that😲

I don't like the fat dad bod type. I can tolerate someone being skinny fat, but if he has a gut and/or manboobs, it's not attractive to me whatsoever.
