We'd love to be thinner in a week, or even in a day, even better if we don't have to strive for it. We want to be thinner because we have to go to this or that event. We search for the magic solution which will transform us overnight, be it pills, special shakes, belts or depriving diets. There is no magical solution. There is a whole industry based on diet products, that lives off people's ignorance and desperation to get thinner. They try to sell us anything they can think of, in the promise we 'll get thinner.


In most of those pills and shakes packages, it is written that the results depend on having a balanced diet. So even though they might give you a boost, they can't make you thinner just by using them, if you don't start forming good eating habits. You can actually get a boost from natural products, such as vinegar, lemon, green tea and pepper. Pills are artificial and might actually harm you instead of helping you.


Concerning weight loss belts or special tights,corsets, pants or underwear, you can actually loose 2-4 kg, but that's just water, not fat. If you drink some water, regain them. You can get the same results if you reduce your salt consumption. Excess salt consumption makes your body retain water.

Then, there exist thousands of diet books and magazines, which promise quick ways to loose weight by using weird tricks or by dramatically constricting your food intake and forbidding certain nutrients altogether, such as carbs or fat. Of course, there also exist well-written books that can actually educate people about nutrition and help them form good habits, but one has to be wary and search about how accurate is what he reads.

The most important point is that by going on a diet untill you loose the extra weight you have, and going back to eating the way you did before, you 'll achieve nothing. You'll loose weight and then you 'll put it back on, plus some more, and it will be even more difficult to loose weight in the future. By not eating important nutrients and eating insufficient amound of food, you create deficiences in your body that make you unhealthy. You might disturb your period, get acne, hair loss, dizziness or sleep disorders. By following strict diets, you lower your metabolic rate, because your body realises you starve and goes in survival mode, and you loose muscle fibers instead of fat. Also, by depriving yourself, you end up getting strong cravings, that eventually make you overeat and put the weight back on. This results in dissapointment, low self esteem and eating disorders. It makes you believe you'll never loose the extra weight permanently. Also, strict diets affect your behavior, making you angry, bitter, tired and very anxious.

This means you should stop going on fad diets, buying diet products and expecting to loose a lot of weight without effort. Realise that you don't go on a diet, that you change your way of eating permanently, that this is a new way of thinking, eating and living. You have to get educated about nutrition and make permanent changes in the way you eat, so you can achieve a balanced diet. You have to learn how much you should eat according to your needs and how you can include foods you like in your nutrition without harming yourself.
