5 Auto-immune diseases that will have a cure in the near future

So just as a quick review an auto-immune disease is a condition where your immune system attacks normal healthy cells in your body when it shouldn't.

5. Crohn's disease

Is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the lining of the digestive tract. Some evidence shows that a bacterium called Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) is the cause of the disease. Vaccination against MAP was studied and an anti-MAP vaccine appeared effective in mice and cattle with no adverse side effects. https://crohnsmapvaccine.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/CrohnsMAPVaccine_MediaRelease_June2014.pdf

4. Vitiligo

is when pigment producing cells die or stop functioning. In 1992 a scientific report was published of successfully transplanting melanocytes to vitiligo affected areas, effectively repigmenting the region. However remission differed from person to person. In 2015 Dr. King and Dr. Craiglow gave a 53 year old patient with white spots covering her face, hands, and body tofacitinib a class of drugs Janus kinase inhibitors (JAK). Within 5 months the white spots on her face and hands were nearly gone with only a few spots left on other parts of her body. Dr. Kind and Craiglow hope to set a clinical trial of this drug for Vitiligo very soon. https://news.yale.edu/2015/06/24/vitiligo-patient-arthritis-drug-restores-skin-color

3. Celiacs disease

Is an auto-immune disease where the person cannot digest gulten a protein found in wheat and other grains. Doing so results in the immune system cross reacting to the small bowel tissue causing an inflammatory reaction. This leads to cutting and shortening the villi lining the small intestine which interferes with the absorption nutrients. The only known treatment has been eating gluten free foods which doesn't always help with adults this could be due to having the disease for such a long time that too much damage has alreayd been done. Three different types of new treatments are being looked at by researchers gluten detoxification, modulation of the intestinal permeability, and modulation of immune response. Gluten exposure could be minimized by ingestion of a combination of enzymes proyllendopeptidase and a barely glutamine specific cysteine endopeptidase (EP-B2) that degrade putative 33-mer peptide in the duodenum. Alternative treatments that are also being looked at is the inhibition of Zonulin, a signaling protein linked to increase permeability of the bowel wall. One agent CCX282-B, which is a 647 chemokine receptor antagonist is in phase 2 clinical trial on the basis small intestine biopsies taken from people before and after gluten exposure. https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00540657

2. Alopecia areata

Also known as spot baldness is a auto-immune disease where the immune system sees the hair follicles as foreign and attacks them resulting in hair loss anywhere in the body. Some people regrow their hair, but then it falls back out again and for some its permanent. The known cause of the disease had alluded for decades until 2013 to 2015 where Dr. Angela Christiano found the genes responsible for causing the disease. She found out that using Janus kinase inhibitors (JAK) to block this family of enzymes reverses the condition resulting bakc in hair growth. At first in 2013 they tried this experiment on mice orally then in a human in 2014 which made breaking news reporting of a man with the most severe form of this disease alopecia universalis, total hair loss everywhere when he experienced full hair regrowth after taking the pill for 5 months. Then in 2015 they made a topical (cream) treatment from the same drug which had JAK inhibitors and applied it to mice with alopecia and it regrew a significant amount of hair. A couple months later they tried using the cream on the very first human patient fully restoring her eyebrows in 12 weeks and hair on her head. https://news.yale.edu/2015/12/09/research-news-yale-doctors-help-bald-teen-grow-hair-using-novel-cream https://newsroom.cumc.columbia.edu/blog/2015/10/23/blocking-enzymes-in-hair-follicles-promotes-hair-growth/ https://www.cnn.com/2014/06/20/health/baldness-cure-alopecia/

1. Type 1 Diabetes

5 Auto-immune diseases that will have a cure in the near future

This needs to introduction at all, but just incase this is when the immune system sees your pancreatic cells as foreign and attack the cells resulting in producging little to no insulin in the pancreas. The exact cause for this has been unkown until recently Johnson and Johnson is joining forces with biotech company Viacyte to speed development of the first stem cell treatment for this disease. They've already begun testing it in a small number of diabetic patients. They've already tested in on animals with large amounts of success. The therapy involves inducing embryonic cells in a lab dish to turn into insulin producing cells, then putting them inside a small capsule that is implanted under the skin. https://www.columbian.com/news/2016/feb/08/diabetes-cure-researchers-may-have-found-it/

Thanks for reading this my take what do you guys think do you know anybody with these conditions or have them yourself? Do you believe there could be any cures in the near future?
