Spot on. You're right about the guys, of course many will deny it but we know how guys talk when women aren't around to hear it, none of them are going to choose her over the others you showed. I don't understand why they feel the need to promote overweight "plus sized" models over actual fit women. It's not as if these women are anorexic and starving, they all get where they are by exercising hard and eating healthy. People would rather make excuses not to though.
I totally agree with you. Models like Ashley are not healthy. People can say 'but she probably eats healthy and exercises a lot so it can't hurt', but it still can. It only takes part of the unhealthyness away. She still has too much body fat. I always wonder why it has to be these extreme opposites. Either super skinny or obese. Why not a real normal body with a bmi of 20 or something?
Plus sized models exist for PR purposes so companies/ publishers can earn their "woke stripes". Male readers/ customers don't want to see plus sized models though.
Although that's not to say a certain proportion of men wouldn't *date* plus sized models-- nor does it make a value judgement about their inherent desirability in the sexual marketplace.
But in the context of modelling, a woman's appearance is sold as a product in essence-- and customers respond to a particular kind of product.)
I'd also advise people to be suspicious of the premise that such coverage is for the benefit of the models themselves. No industry other than modelling is so predatory in its treatment of its talent, models of all shapes and sizes are profit-generating assets, no more, no less. As soon as agencies stop seeing a return on their investments with a particular model-- or category of models-- those models will be dropped in a heartbeat. If anyone really believes this plus size trend is for the benefit of so-called female empowerment, then they're perpetuating a false agenda that only serves the agencies' bottom lines.
Well people do know that she's over weight that's what being a plus size model is being bigger then the average size but in the US the average size for women is 16 so most are plus size I do agree being on sports illustrated when your not so fit is kinda weird but just because your plus size doesn't mean you can't be on sports illustrated because there are some people who are considered plus size people who are fit and they weight more because of muscle inside of fat also there are plus models who are actually more skinnier than Ashley Graham who look a healthy weight who could go on there but Ashley Graham does have a good face.
I'm a size 0 and even I don't think she's overweight, she has no rolls or anything. Yet we are supposed to worship men with a beer gut and a beard and call him a "hot lumberjack" or a "teddy bear type" and people say "He's not fat he just has a dad-bod".
in your view she is not attractive in my view those last women are not sexually attractive either. Now i do not know what sports illustrated is about at all but from the name i would assume athletes should be on the cover lol but ashley graham is not an athlete i think she is a model so that is a bit weird, but to be honest i do not know who they usually put on the cover anyway
but i genuinely do not understand why everyone thinks that what they think is attractive is the epitome of beauty. maybe the magazines are trying to appeal to more people and make the fashion or beauty industry less closed off which is a good thing it reflects that beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder i think :D
@nymous1234 thing is, your view doesn't actually matter in this case.
Men decide what is sexually attractive in women--not women. If most men think chubby Ashley is hotter than those athletes, it would be so. But it is not. What women think makes a woman sexually attractive doesn't matter, as the vast, vast majority of women want to sleep with men, not women.
It is exactly the same as say, 50 Shades of Grey. It doesn't matter if 99% of men all agree that Christian Gray is a disgusting pervert who should be shot. Women loved him and the book, and got wet reading about him. Women completely decide what is sexually attractive in a man, just as men completely decide what is sexually attractive in a woman.
That is true men decide what makes a woman attractive and many many men find that ashley graham lady quite attractive. One man's opinion does not determine what makes a woman beautiful nor does he speak for the whole male population.
@OpinionOwner why are people who like bigger people called chubby chaseres? Why not give everyone a special name depending on the size of people they like? There is no one person that everyone is going to think is good looking.
@funny_strange_man Lol exactly there is no one person that everyone is gonna think is good looking that is why they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder but some people on this site love to bash someone who is not their type for whatever reason that may be.
@Other_Tommy_Wiseau I already knew people who like chubby people were called chubby chaseres. What do you call some who likes a person who is skinny, toned, muscular etc.
@funny_strange_man a normal healthy weight for her, combined with a normal body fat percentage for a girl, which is anywhere from 25-30%. shape isn't important, but bodies with similar weights and body fat % don't vary too much.
Let's be real, people. Ashley Graham looks obese. She only looked good on the magazine cover because they posed her to emphasize her face, tits, and to hide her huge gut.
I didn't have the time to read the whole post due to me being in a rush, but I don't think people are afraid to say she's over wieght, some people just have a different though on what's "overweight" and what's not. It's very subjective. Im personally into skinny girls but some will find the girls I like anorexic. To each his own.
I agree. I think the choice to put her on the cover was more of a political one rather than one based on what guys actually find most attractive. They no fat shaming is a controversial topic nowadays and that using her would create buzz as well as gain brownie points with the body positivity movement. in my opinion Barbara Palvin should have gotten the cover instead of her. She represents more of a healthy balance between skinny and curvy.
Allison Stokke would have been a nice choice as well.
If she were working out and trying to be healthy I wouldn't say a word, but as she is glorifying her borderline obesity and its likely future of diabetes and heart disease I feel compelled:
SHE IS A FAT ASS.
I say it in love, hoping that others who are heading towards the abyss will instead work towards being healthy.

I don't see people afraid to say it. I've been reading this bizarre outrage over a magazine cover for months now. It was a marketing ploy, that's all. SI swimsuit is a washed up wank mag that serves no purpose when it used to exist mainly for teen boys to get some fap fodder easily.
I personally dig ESPN magazine's Body Issue much more. It talks about real athlete's bodies.
She IS overweight... no one said she isn't... That isn't the point, though. If she's working out every day - and staying fit (no matter the extra pounds) then she's fine in my book. Unless a person is literally physically morphed by it - and it's running their life and health - then it's fine.
It certainly seems like people still try to ram the idea that this is sexy down our throats though. She can be in whatever shape she wants, it being on the cover of SI is the part that just seems condescending and pandering.
Ashley Graham is DEFINITELY overweight. Her body is NOT super attractive--certainly not enough to justify being in a magazine issue dedicated to showcasing the most sexually attractive women in the world. Also, none of the other girls pictured here are in that league either, although all of them are closer than Ashley Graham is. Look back to the uber-babes like Elle MacPherson, Kathy Ireland, Stephanie Seymour, Tyra Banks, Cheryl Tiegs, Marissa Miller and the like. THOSE were the type of women that BELONGED in the SI Swimsuit Issue. The kind of women that would give any man an uncontrollable hard on just looking at them in a bikini, let alone fully nude. That's what SI used to be about, but it no longer is for whatever reason. Fortunately, we now have other places to find those glorious specimens of feminine perfection. Thank goodness for the internet!
"Her body is NOT super attractive" - so YOU say. I'm sure there's guys that would say otherwise, me included. Just because a person is overweight, doesn't mean she or he can't be attractive.
@chrisbigman True. But play the numbers. What percentage of guys do you thing found Elle MacPherson ball-tighteningly attractive? I'd argue it was over 90% easily. What would it be for Ashley Graham? 15%? 20%? I'm not saying NO ONE finds her hot--clearly you do and you're not alone. I'm just saying she's not hot to the vast, vast majority of guys (or girls for that matter).
15-20%? You're kidding, right? I believe it's higher than you think. I don't dispute that a lot of men find/found Elle MacPherson attractive. But 15-20% for Ashley? No.
I don't know. Until I take a poll/survey, I have no way of knowing. And completely trusting articles isn't exactly a good idea, as they sometimes tend to exaggerate/embellish the truth.
People need to find better things to do than to concern themselves with someone else's weight. Some chick posing for a magazine cover in a bikini isn't my idea of a life changing event.
@AleDeEurope anorexia is a mental illness. they identify and seem themselves as fat. when they look in the mirror and imagine themselves they see a fat person therefore they stop eating or eat very little. a lot of people in my family suffered from including my mother. Its a identity disease.
Exactly! A dude called me fat a few days ago but what he doesn't know is that I work out daily and I barely eat, and limit myself to healthy foods. People worry too much about what you look like on the outside without taking into comsideration what they do behind closed doors.
Yeah, she's overweight, and her being on sports illustrated doesn't make sense. From what I see, she's a model and not someone that is in sports. They're ton of overweight men who are extremely athletic. Just look at linemen in the NFL. A lot of the times once they leave the NFL they continue their workout routine but change their eating habits and drop tons of weight, but when they're fat they're still athletic. Since she's not an athlete and the fact that she's overweight doesn't make a lot of sense to me as to why she'd be on the cover. With that said, I'd still smash. More cushion for the pushin!

I don't know her so I won't judge I don't know why personally. But yes she is overweight and beautiful she is overweight curvy if you check BMI not curvy healthy by BMI. And I'm pretty sure she eats healthy and work out that's like a part job if you are a model. Some people is buillt like that and have a very hard time loosing weight. And I like that they show woman like her to show their beauty but I think most NOT all models should be healthy. Because that should be the goal. I think she is beautiful but that's my opinion. By the way I feel the same about underweighted models. And I Think Most people get that she is overweight that's the point. She talks about it a lot on her YT show.
This take is hilarious. I've never seen someone go to such lengths to discuss someone else's body. I actually do believe you feel insecure about yourself for some reason.
I am a fan of most of the bras she models and her bodysuit she designed herself. I'm just a lingerie freak.
The picture you had on the other post made her look completely different, she looked super sexy because of photoshop and lighting. These pictures are less touched and she is plain fat. Didn't know photoshop could make someone look that different
I don't think anyone is afraid to say it. Some people like a lot of fat and others don't, but I definitely don't think her being overweight means she can't be on a sports magazine. People of all weights work out. Not everyone slims downs so quickly but humans do come in all shapes and sizes so we should have a variety of representations.

Agreed.
Ashley Graham is getting market time because of fat women who want to feel better, and a few chubby chaser men.
She is not attractive at all compared to actual physically fit women.
But don't most women look so boringly generic. Ashley is something creative like a curvy cheese burger.
in your view she is not attractive in my view those last women are not sexually attractive either. Now i do not know what sports illustrated is about at all but from the name i would assume athletes should be on the cover lol but ashley graham is not an athlete i think she is a model so that is a bit weird, but to be honest i do not know who they usually put on the cover anyway

@Aeon_Flux_21 look up the golden ratio... and no
@nymous1234 thing is, your view doesn't actually matter in this case.

@nymous1234 As I said, there are chubby chaser men. The flip side is that there about about 5 fat women for every chubby chaser man, at least.
Lol smh
@Other_Tommy_Wiseau Do you think everyone wants to look at just people who are the golden ratio?
@OpinionOwner why are people who like bigger people called chubby chaseres? Why not give everyone a special name depending on the size of people they like? There is no one person that everyone is going to think is good looking.
@funny_strange_man actually, yes. and they're called chubby chasers cause they like fat chicks and it's good alliteration
@funny_strange_man Lol exactly there is no one person that everyone is gonna think is good looking that is why they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder but some people on this site love to bash someone who is not their type for whatever reason that may be.

@funny_strange_man nothing or normal. there are definitely names for those people
@Other_Tommy_Wiseau what would you consider normal since people Com on different heights, weights and shapes?
@funny_strange_man a normal healthy weight for her, combined with a normal body fat percentage for a girl, which is anywhere from 25-30%. shape isn't important, but bodies with similar weights and body fat % don't vary too much.

I'm sure there have been plenty of underweight women on the cover but you slap one overweight girl on it and it's the end of the world.
Amen
I don't know why tf everyone is so concerned with someone else's weight.
They seriously have no idea what some people could be going through emotionally or psychically.
Exactly! A dude called me fat a few days ago but what he doesn't know is that I work out daily and I barely eat, and limit myself to healthy foods. People worry too much about what you look like on the outside without taking into comsideration what they do behind closed doors.

Nice trap question lol
Its true, curvy means a flat stomach with wider than 35" hips, and proportional bust size.
I literally have friends who let themselves go and say they are curvy, but are the first ones complaining about feeling fat and pudgy.
Im naturally thin, so I have to eat a weight gain diet, lift daily, and take care of my body to keep my nice figure.
To just lie and say being overweight is sexy, is really misleading and unfair.
I don't think anyone is afraid to say it. Some people like a lot of fat and others don't, but I definitely don't think her being overweight means she can't be on a sports magazine.
