Why You Haven't Lost Weight Yet

1. You're clearly confused about how much effort you've put in

Working out twice a week is not going to do it. There are people that convince themselves that minimal effort and laziness should garner stellar results. They hit the gym for a half hour twice a week and actually think the scale should show a weight loss of 15lbs! You didn't earn your college degree, or get to keep your job by only showing up twice a week and barely doing anything. You have to put time and effort into it to see actual results.

2. You're STILL doing a fad diet

Lemon water, fasting (starving), packaged foods, taking pills, only eating red food. These are great plans if you like to yo-you diet and waste your time and money. Why are you ignoring thousands of years of evidence that eating a natural whole food diet and getting decent exercise work? Stop trying to lose weight for a minute and actually put your efforts into losing weight for your lifetime.

3. You're trying to out train a bad diet

Why You Haven't Lost Weight Yet

Even world class athletes who put in five or six hours a day at the gym, know that their performance can suffer if they eat a crap diet. Your body, like a car, wants good fuel put into it. Shoving down junk food and then trying to just run for hours on end, is like a fad diet, a waste of your time and effort. If you want to lean out, gain muscle, trim down...whatever, help your body help yourself by eating a healthy diet. The amount of exercise you have to do to burn the calories from that 1,000 calorie milkshake could be better spent enjoying yourself doing something that you love.

4. You're not doing and eating things you love

A huge part of failing on eating healthy foods and exercising is that people think they just have to suffer endlessly in order to reach their goals. You think you "have to" run 10 miles which leaves you grumpy and bitter about doing it, or they feel they have to just eat kale salads. Stop doing this because you aren't going to even want to keep at this if you even manage to reach your goals. Find and do exercise you like actually doing and eat foods that you want. There are so many delicious alternatives to a greasy burger and fries or pizza or shakes that still will allow you to have those things, but made/cooked differently.

5. You haven't dealt yet

Why You Haven't Lost Weight Yet

You cannot put focus on yourself if you are still in a mode of processing all the drama/trauma/stress in your life. If you can't seem to find time, if you're still feeling depressed about something or someone, tackle that first or at least work on it in addition to your workout and diet. Often times, these are actually the things that hold people back or sabotage them from finding weight loss success. Make sure you are working on your self-esteem and worth if you're at a low point, because if you aren't, even if you do hit your goals, it can be hard for those people to actually value their hard work and then just go back to old habits.

6. You're keeping yourself fat

We wouldn't expect to see bottles of alcohol lining the shelves of a recovering addicts house, so why is your pantry filled with food and drinks that you have issues with? You cannot eat something that isn't there to begin with. Ditch these items and make room for healthy food that you should be eating. You also can't exercise if you don't set yourself up for success in that department. Do you own a pair of athletic shoes, do you have some work out dvds, do you know where you can go for a run near you? A gym is great, but not always convenient especially if you're busy. Having alternative ways to exercise available and at the ready can help you stay on track no matter what.

7. You don't have support

Why You Haven't Lost Weight Yet

Do not underestimate how important having someone cheering you on or helping you stay accountable is. Just think of how many days as a kid you didn't want to go to school, but your parents made you go and made you keep at it. You needed that push or on some days to literally be forced to keep going. Find a friend, find a workout buddy, find a support group, or online weight loss group and have them help you keep the focus on your goals.

8. You don't get back up again

So you had a bad day or a bad week, so what? Keep going! If you are so unhappy or unhealthy or both with yourself that you feel miserable all the time, what is giving up going to do for you? What is just saying F-it, I'm going to just go back to my bad habits going to actually accomplish for you? Losing weight can be incredibly hard and for some, the journey can be months if not years to accomplish a healthy weight again, so know that you will have some bad days, but keep going. Whatever that voice is that is telling you to quit, you need to put it on mute and realize that tomorrow is another day and another opportunity to do better. It is literally only ever a fail if you give up.
