Trying to learn a new skill? You have to want it!

I see a lot of people that say they really want to try learning something. Yet, when they finally start trying to learn it, they give up on it almost as fast as they started. What gives?!

When you're learning something new, you often get frustrated when you don't succeed at it right away, right? That's ok. That's normal. With that said, get over it!

When you want to learn a skill or a hobby, you can't just expect to be good, or even mediocre at it right away. When you inevitably fail those expectations, you're left discouraged and wanting to quit, thinking, "What's the point?" or even just "Oh well."

"Oh well."

you can't expect to be good, or even mediocre at it right away.

But don't worry! You can change this!

In order to fix it, what needs to happen is you need to change your mindset from "Instant gratification" to "Hard work and patience." What that means for you is simple, yet difficult. You need to be able to put in the work! Greatness never happened in a day, a week, or even a month.

Greatness never happened in a day.

Going forward, when you want to learn something, you're going to have to truly want it!

when you want to learn something, you're going to have to truly want it!

You'll be practicing until you ache; you'll be spending so much time in it that you're almost sick of it; you'll wonder if it's even worth it. Honestly, I wouldn't blame you for any of these things. It's tough!! I've felt the exact same things many times during the 8 months I've been learning drums, and especially during the 5 years I've been learning Japanese!

But that's the defining difference between mediocrity and greatness:

When faced with obstacles like difficulty that seem intimidating, mediocrity gets discouraged. Mediocrity backs down and gives up, thinking that things are too hard or even downright impossible! Mediocrity decides to settle for less.

Greatness, on the other hand, pushes past these same obstacles with perseverance and tenacity! When greatness feels like it's hit a dead end with nowhere else to go, instead of giving up and turning back, greatness takes a good look at it...

Trying to learn a new skill? You have to want it!

and sprints toward it, head-on!

Trying to learn a new skill? You have to want it!

So, which one are you going to be? Mediocrity, or greatness?

When faced with obstacles like difficulty that seem intimidating, mediocrity gets discouraged. Mediocrity backs down and gives up, thinking that things are too hard or even downright impossible! Mediocrity decides to settle for less.

When greatness feels like it's hit a dead end with nowhere to go, instead of giving up and turning back, greatness takes one good look at it and sprints toward it, head on!

If you take what I've said here and apply it to your life, with enough hard work the goals you once thought were impossible will slowly become possible!

Just remember: nobody else can make you do or be anything. Whether you're mediocrity or greatness is entirely up to you and the decisions you make for yourself.

I hope everyone reading this learns a lot from this MyTake. Thanks for reading! Have a great Easter!
