The world has a serious obesity problem. Notice how I don't say the United States. Mexico is actually the most obese nation in the world, and you know developed countries such as the US, Canada, parts of Europe , etc etc etc aren't that far behind. So yes, we need to change our diets and get off the fucking couch. I'm working on that right now. I've never been fat, but that brings me to my next point: EVEN THIN PEOPLE ARE UNHEALTHY. Even the thin ones like myself are often out of shape. I know I am. And eating shitty food is bad no matter what Jean size you were. I seriously think we need to totally change our diets and lifestyles... however, I'm also so fucking sick of women being told what to look like. I'm slim, but far from being really thin or bony. Actually from a medical perspective I'm not thin nor fat. But at 5 feet tall and 115 pounds with thick thighs I still have girls grabbing me and proclaiming what a "stick" I am and how I need to eat. Like my god I am not even lean by any means and apparently I need thirty more pounds of body fat? At the same time there's people out there who think girls my size are supposed to be 90 pounds. I'm an adult not a 7th grader thank you very much.
I'm supposed to be 90 pounds yet I'm supposed to have hug tits... I'm supposed to be 140 pounds yet still have a tiny waist... I'm supposed to have abs, oh wait no that's yucky on a girl... seriously, with all these dudes acting like their preferences are the words of God, I get dizzy. What am I supposed to look like?
So why can't we just say "let's get healthy" not "let's look like this! "?

At 5'0 and 115 pounds, you really don't sound anywhere near "too skinny" or "anorexic". I think I read somewhere that a 5'0 woman should normally be between 95-120 pounds (108 being around average).
I'm 5'8 and 130 pounds. I've always been skinny.. but I've also always been athletic XD I recently quit sugar (about a month ago) and I excersize every day.
Is it just me, or did "skinny" used to mean something totally different? People see a woman who weighs 150 pounds now-a-days and calls her a "stick". I think the world is generally just getting fatter.
I completely agree. Skinny today refers to anyone who isn't obviously overweight.
Yeah, I think my weight is just right. I don't really consider myself thin.
Your weight sounds healthy too. My friend is your height and 120 and looks a bit too thin so I think 130 would look healthier, but really, how healthy you actually are is what matters :) congrats on quitting sugar. I'm trying to get away from processed foods.
Even though this woman is of average weight, people would be calling her a "stick" in today's society. I wonder if 200 pound people will be considered skinny in 100 years time...
I'm so tired people of talking about eating healthy and exercising, like that's the answer to everything. Do people realize that eating right and exercising, doesn't necessarily mean you're "healthy". I have an Aunt who's a vegetarian and is skinny as stick and she's in her 50's, but yet she still as high cholesterol. Plus, there's a lot of ways for people to be unhealthy even if they do eat right and exercise. There's a lot of things people do that aren't exactly healthy for them, but they still do it. So, I'd say it's naïve to act like just because you go to the gym and eat right, that you're some how healthier then someone who doesn't.
I have to say, that girl you said we should all start looking up to, is not what I will ever strive for. I don't want abs, I don't do gyms and I eat the way I choose. I think a woman should look they way she looks without someone making a 5 second judgement about her due to what she weighs. I mean, if you put a girl who's thin and one who's a little thicker in a room together. How do you know that the so called "healthy" looking one is really healthy and the other one is not. There's a chance the thin one could be riddled with health issues and the thicker one is healthy as a horse. I honesty don't think it's fair to look at someone to determine if they're healthy or not by their size. Because, no one knows that. I believe that everything should be done in moderation and has long as you don't go over board you can eat and do whatever you want (within reason).
I don't really agree with this take, but we're all entitled to our opinions.
Your aunt isn't "unhealthy" just because she has high cholesterol. You can eat healthy, exercise and all of that, and still be genetically predispositioned to have things like high cholesterol, type 2, etc. It would be unhealthy if you were also sedentary and overweight.
But based on how our society is, exercise and diet IS the answer, sorry. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. Go look it up.
@candlewax I'm not going to go look it up. In fact there's a lot of doctors that say as long as you get x amount of vegetables, fruits, protein, drink water, etc , you're good to go. Also, I've read a lot that diet pop and all those drinks that are "healthy" for you, are not. They also say that exercise isn't necessarily going to make you healthier, I hear all the time that going to the gym and doing a cardio workout or what not isn't actually enough. I have NO problem with people being healthy, I do have a problem with people thinking because your a certain weight that you're unhealthy and probably don't eat right or exercise, because we don't actually know that. Nor, do we know if that thin person actually eats right or exercises, but we just assume so because they're thin. I think we all have our own idea of "healthy", but I don't believe because I don't eat carrot sticks and workout everyday that I'm unhealthy
@candlewax However, if I told people what I eat they might disagree with that. I think as long as your doctor doesn't have any concerns or mentions your weight being an issue, that you can eat whatever you want in moderation. It's a balance thing and we need balance of everything, because doing one thing too much isn't a good thing. Not to mention, drinking a lot, doing drugs and sleeping around isn't healthy for you, but nobodies writing a take on that. People will continue to do those things in excess and not care if it's good or bad, because it's right for them. So, it's multiple lane on that one.
See, I'd be fine with my body if people quiet acting like me not having a flat stomach and some rolls was a horrid thing. But, it's because we put so much pressure on women to be thin and look perfect, that they have campaigns featuring really women. So, little girls don't feel bad if they don't look perfect or do all they tell you do to. That's why.
"it's naïve to act like just because you go to the gym and eat right, that you're some how healthier then someone who doesn't"
Did you really say that? It's perfectly reasonable (and true) to think that those who eat healthy and excersize are wayy better off than those who don't.
Yes, I did. Because, everybody acts like if you eat right and exercise your granted this pass of health and wellness and nothing bad will ever happen to you because it's the cure for everything. When that's not true, life isn't that cut and dry. What we see on the outside, doesn't tell us what's going on in the inside and diet and exercise can only help you so much but they don't guarantee anyone, anything.
If you were to go to the gym right now and look at all the people around you, can you say for 100% certainty that every single one is healthy on the inside? Probably not. You don't know if one of those people has diabetes or is walking around with one kidney or had cancer or a heart condition or breathing problems, you don't know. None of us do, that's all I'm trying to say. Don't assume because they look "healthy" and are doing as told that they're actually healthy. Also don't assume because someone looks "unhealthy", that they're not doing as they're told and aren't healthy. Because, we don't know. That's all I'm trying to say. We should just cut each other slack and let everyone live their life the way they see fit without us making them feel insecure about it.
I said one kidney and that's not what I think this is about, so I think you missed what I was saying. I'm saying I'm tired of people acting like because someone looks a certain way that it equates to them being healthy or not, which you don't know. That's what I'm saying.
Also, this is about you thinking they glorify obesity. But, you don't seem to mention how every single woman that's on tv or in a commercial is super thin and looks perfect. Which is why they show real women, to help women see that nobody is really that perfect. Because, with all they tell women they are suppose to be, it's why so many are insecure. Including myself. Which is why they start showing curvier women, to help them see they have nothing to be insecure about. They should just be who they are and rock it for all it's worth. That's why they do it.
I don't even know where to start with this nonsense.
One, doctors aren't saying squat. That would be RDs and exercise physiologists who are experts on the matter. MDs don't learn much of this stuff in medical school, so it's pointless to use them as a source of expertise.
My MD hit me up for advice on weight loss and exercise because I actually have a background on the topic. They know NOTHING in regard to these matters unless they take up a speciality that touches base on this stuff.
Someone who exercises and eats right > someone who doesn't exercise and eats right. Their heart is healthier, cardio is functioning at a higher rate, musculoskeletal is stronger/better, circulation increases dramatically.
I have a friend who had liver disease and was given a life expectancy of 6-8 years post diagnosis. He corrected his diet and took it a step further and became a vegetarian and started running marathons. His liver disease went away. So... magic?
Something else you need to consider is that the obesity epidemic that's in full force in this country and the solution to a lot of this is proper diet and exercise. People are not nearly as active as they used to be due to modern conveniences. This also means that yes, exercising DOES make someone healthier than someone else. Most people eat like crap, don't exercise, and develop diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, and poor circulation.
Yes, there are exceptions where someone who is heavy may have perfectly good numbers and none of these afflictions. But compared to this epidemic, the numbers are small. Sadly, most of the obese people that you see likely have at least type 2 diabetes. There was a projection a few years back that by 2020 HALF of Americans would be type 2 diabetics. HALF.
A vegetarian diet isn't a totally healthy diet seeing as we're omnivores, we require meat in our diet so her diet isn't the correct one. It could be genetics or her age causing it but it's fairly simple to control/reduce your cholesterol. The only reason the thin woman would be riddled with health issues would be down to genetics and environmental issues. Doctors know who's healthy or not. It's never healthy to have pounds of fat around your organs though. Being overweight comes with more health problems than being thin which was shown in the fact that 800 people day a day from obesity and 200 a year from anorexia. Too much fat is evidently more unhealthy than having less vitamins/minerals due to low calorie intake. People who are overweight obviously aren't following the "everything in moderation" motto.
The average size woman is a 14 and only 5'4? I'm sorry, but that is an absolute disgrace. In the video, the woman said "clothing companies should be expanding their sizes". no. Women should just loose some fucking weight.
Personally, I'm over weight. It comes form having played football and done weight lifting in college and learning bad eating habits, and continuing to eat as a heavy weightlifter and football D-Lineman after I'd stopped playing football, and my weight training had taken a back seat. I've been instructed by doctors and medical professionals to take my health and eating habits into account, and I've improved considerably, getting back into the weight room, now, four to six days per week, and changing my eating habits.
When I see fat men modeling clothing, I don't feel the least empowered. I actually get motivated to lose what I have and get into better shape.
When I see ultra-thin models - both male and female - it is, again, not empowering, because I know of the eating disorders that the showing off uber-thin models cause... and as a teacher, I've dealt with both guys and girls depression due to feeling like they don't measure up to models' standards or athletes' abilities as portrayed in modern 21st Century Media.
This is all not to say that there aren't healthy models doing their best and working hard to maintain what they've gotten and which helps them in their modeling profession. Those people are an inspiration to me, personally, even in my after-40 years.
Great article! Let's encourage everyone to do their best and lift other up!
As an overweight woman, I agree with your post. I don't think a thigh gap is a good standard for a woman but I also don't think glorifying a fat girl is good either. I do love myself, which should be what girls strive for, but I don't think I am a good weight, nor do I want to just learn to live with myself. I want to be healthier. More young woman should learn what it is to be healthy not just small enough to wear the right clothes. Or the opposite and turn into that bitchy big girl who doesn't care that you think she's fat and gives you a snarky remark but goes home and cries in her Ben and Jerrys.
I agree. A thigh gap really isn't a good standard. A lot of girls aren't even capable of getting a thigh gap unless they are anorexic, it's their genetics.
I agree. Some women have natural thigh gaps, and other women have naturally thick legs. Who cares? As long as both women are active, and eat nutritious foods (with the occasional dessert) it's perfectly fine.
Glorifying women with eating disorders/ women who are heavy because they love to eat aren't good. There needs to be more "fit" women, more athletes, and more over-all healthy women in the media.
YES, thank you for this take! People try to glorify healthy people, but they take it too far. Overweight is not healthy. This is an example of healthy: thumbs.dreamstime.com/.../...dy-torso-17851549.jpg Is she too thin? No. Is she overweight? No. She is a little bit to the thinner side, but people should maintain their BMI between 18 and 25. Just like recommended.

She has a slim figure, but she still clearly has body-fat and looks healthy. I would like to see more women like this in the media.
Yes, it is. I think it's sad that a lot of people would call her a "stick" and tell her to eat more cheeseburgers. THIS is a healthy, fit woman and people just don't want to accept that. Not every woman needs DD's and Kim Kardashian's ass to be beautiful.
Here's what I agree with: FAT is not curvy... fat is fat, and too fat is obese." Being a bit overweight or chunky and still in good health without feeling "shame" that you don't look like the girls you display in your photo, would NOT be a problem in America. Obesity is. That said however, you must be a Republican because you like to misrepresent the numbers. NOWHERE does the CDC recommend 2.5 hours of "aerobic" physical activity daily, for adults !!! That is the WEEKLY recommendation !!! Here's what their own summary actually says from the Physical Guidelines for Americans, 2nd Edition. Key Guidelines for Adults Adults should move more and sit less throughout the day. Some physical activity is better than none. Adults who sit less and do any amount of moderate-to vigorous physical activity gain some health benefits. For substantial health benefits, adults should do at least 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) to 300 minutes (5 hours) a week of moderate-intensity, or 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes) to 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) a week of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity, or an equivalent combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity aerobic activity. Preferably, aerobic activity should be spread throughout the week. Additional health benefits are gained by engaging in physical activity beyond the equivalent of 300 minutes (5 hours) of moderate-intensity physical activity a week. Adults should also do muscle-strengthening activities of moderate or greater intensity and that involve all major muscle groups on 2 or more days a week, as these activities provide additional health benefits.
So while I agree with the obesity assessment, lets get the facts straight please.
A lot of the things we're attracted to are actually unhealthy.
The problem is that while our conscious minds are in the modern world, our subconscious minds haven't changed much from 50,000 years ago.
For example, a lot of guys are attracted to extreme curves. A curvy body (particularly around the hips, butt and thighs) signifies that the mother has a large amount of polyunsaturated fat stored away, which would decrease her metabolism in the event of stress or starvation. This would have been great several millennia ago, because famine was a real problem back then. This is maladaptive today, because we don't want our higher functioning sacrificed by a low metabolism whenever we get stressed, or go too long without eating.
An example of the opposite gender: Many, or even nearly all women, are more attracted to the tallest men. However, it's been shown that taller people (and taller dogs) die consistently earlier, and have overactive pituitaries, which is correlated with a lower metabolism. Lower metabolism actually stimulates growth, because it 1) reduces the nutrients required for the same amount of growth, and 2) increases osteoblastic activity. Multiple mouse and rat experiments have shown that when a rodent has a high metabolism, it grows to a smaller size. Of course, it is more advantageous in civilization to live longer and have a higher metabolism, to increase the efficiency of our higher functions (conscious thought, calculation, etc.)
We also have several agents in our environment which promote metabolic dysfunction in people, including the high prevalence of vegetable oils, synthetic estrogens, increases preservative and pesticide use, other pollution, breakdown of the family structure, breakdown of social support systems, etc.
When people are more metabollically dysfunctional, they become more attracted to the metabolically dysfunctional.
I don't know what to say about this to be honest... I am a "bigger/thick" woman WITH curves and even though people who don't know me judge me and think I am unhealthy they are mistaken. I workout everyday and eat less than 1500 kcal a day (good, healthy food) and I can't lose weight. It's just stuck. But I am still very healthy and cautious about what I do to my body and there isn't anything a "thin" girl can do, that I can't, except maybe see my own feel but that is because of my boobs, not my belly. If you're interested in how a healthy, but thick, body can look like (the same thing you wanted to celebrate, right? Someone who is healthy?) than you can find more pictures on my Instagram account @bellibooo, same as on GaG
@notverycreativeguy If we ignore what you think of my body, why am I not fine? Because I am not sexually appealing to you? Because I am healthy, so in that way I am perfectly fine.
u hav a pretty face! i will give u dat! i dont mean to offen u, but u will look WAY better if u trim around the belly!! i mean it, u will look HAWT!! if u are working on the figure, all the best. and if u r not, den i would really like to see u sexy. so please dont get down in any case! also, i think u cannot do every thing a slim girl can.. feel free to criticize me. if not any thing, ur world will help me improve!
@Anno_Domini Do you even know what anorexia is? And is it that hard for you to realize that people who just care for their body aren't anorexic? I hope you are not actually 34, because in that case you must be mentally challenged.
Opinion owner, I doubt that you are completely healthy, but to be honest, I don't give a fuck. And trust me, people in real life are just as fuckin' judgmental - whenever I actually notice something like you (which isn't the case that often, as people of your size are basically not existing for me) the gossiping begins.
@chims04 As I wrote, I can't lose weight, no matter what I do. And I don't know what I can't co that a skinny girl can't. Nothing of importance, anyway.
i can't gain weight, no matter what i do! i eat all day, for 17 years. and still dont gain any weight at all. seriously, but i am not giving up, no sir. i will gain weight. believe me, and believe in urself. u can loose some! and in ur current form, u r not sexy. i won't say u r not existing to me. i dont make frnds on the bases of how they look. but i won't b considering dating.
@notverycreativeguy I can definitely tell you're 17, since you haven't learned what sarcasm is. You started all this by being blatantly rude to her. "Seriously, how dare people to call that curves?" Just because YOU don't find her attractive doesn't mean that she isn't attractive to everyone.
@chims04 I only brought up his age because he called me out on mine. xD
For what it's worth, I think she's a very attractive lady just the way she is. Some people are naturally skinny, and some people aren't. There's nothing wrong with either as long as they are healthy.
@notverycreativeguy If you "don't give a fuck" then why are you criticising her in the first place? Is that all you have good in your life to do? Your username definitely says that.
@notverycreativeguy And I can say that I don't care if "people like me" are non-existant to you, because if that is the kind of person you are, I wouldn't want to know you anyway :) I hope you have a great, skinny life with lots of great and skinny friends!
@chims04 I am not attractive to YOU, but I know guys and girls who think I am gorgeous. It is okay that you don't find me attractive and that you don't want to date me.
@JCT666 and @Anno_Domini Thanks for the support, guys :)
no. What we need to do is stop comparing women's bodies and telling women of any size how she is supposed to feel. If a woman is happy then let her be happy and shut up! Many big women are in good health and many thin women are in good health. Many women are their size due to genetivs. So you can't just assume that a big woman or a thin woman is unhealthy because of her size or because she doesn't have bulging muscles. Women with muscles can also be unhealthy so this thing about being "healthy" is not really entirely about actually being healthy and is obviously about her physical appearance. You can't judge someones health from looking at them, you can only judge their attractiveness and only according to your own standards becasue everyone is not attratced to the same things.
It's okay to be happy, but if I were obese, I could never accept that, let alone celebrate it like society is doing now. It's ridiculously unhealthy, and puts you at risks for all sorts of horrible things.
Who is celebraring obesity? There are bigger models now these days, but they are far from obese. The ladies in the pictures above are big girls but they are not obese either. No one is going around like TEAM OBESE REPRESENT!! if you dont want to be obese then dont be obese but there is nothing wrong with loving yourself and acrpting yourself for who you are. Just because you see a big girl loving herself and being happy does not mean she is promoting obesity.
NO OBESE PERSON IS GOING AROUND TELLING ANYONE THAT THEY NEED TO BE OBESE!!! loving yourself and being happy with yourself is not the same as promoting obesity. Who ever wrote this article is full of shit!!!
OMG I could not disagree with you more the idea that a woman should be a size 4-0 is insane.
A woman who is a size 12-20 is healthy and very beautiful check and Google the measurements of Marilyn Monroe perhaps you will have to Google Marilyn Monroe first but when you do in her day she was considered drop dead beautiful the most sexy woman on earth.
By today's warped body self image portrayed in mass media she woukd be considered not healthy but Fat!.
Google other actresses that today would be considered fat Gina Lola Brigida, Lauren Bacall,
My heart goes out to women and girls who suffer from Anorexia or have health issues due to their weight.
For you to post pics of woman who are your idea of the right woman to look like is wrong. And will just further reinforce those women and girls who already suffer a negative self body image.
My two cents on this subject as a father with 2 daughters and a lover to many women of all shapes and sizes.

HAHAHA first of all, Merilyn Monroe was a size 6-8 in US clothing sizes. Not even CLOSE to a 12-20.
Second, I'm a size 2 and I eat like a horse. There's nothing "insane" about being a 0-4. It's actually fairly common.
12-20 is on the larger side. most women that weight don't exercise on a regular basis or eat healthy. Not saying all but a majority of the women I know of that size. My mothers a size 12-14 and I know she's not exactly as healthy as she could be. That being said everyone should eat healthy and exercise no matter if you're a size 0 or size 20.
Posts like these in general put insecurity in the hearts of girls of all ages. I mean why do that this post is just another way of shaming girls that are over weight like society has done for ages. People need to be comfortable in their skin and body but a take like this will not only pressure girls into looking thinner but it will remove confidence and it'll be replaced by doubts and insecurities. We shall encourage people to live a healthy life but there's a thin line there about shaming. I dont like to see people dying from illnesses but we need to inform people in a manner that's less derogatory and demeaning in general then maybe we would have less deaths.
Would you rather have a high self-esteem and die early due to problems caused by obesity? Or have a normal self-esteem and live a long and happy life because you exercise frequently and eat right? It's offensive to over-sensitive butthurt people, but it shouldn't be if it's true.
Eating disorders are rampant due to this shit. Being smaller doesn't mean a person is healthier if they have fucked up eating problems and anxieties about food.
In the first picture, that girl wasn't obese. Plus our whole society is switching to favor the underdogs. Skinny girls are still pretty, but people want to be more open minded because not everyone is fit. I feel that weight doesn't matter, as long as you are happy. It is a choice to be obese, and if you are consciously making that decision than others need to respect that. Although if you really are trying, then there's nothing to say. Its not that skinny isn't pretty anymore, people are so used to being close minded about what beauty is, when its whatever you feel like it is.
Being overweight is an issue and most people are told everyday, myself included.
Skinny is less bashed than overweight. Nobody has said overweight is the new, but you haven't referred to "normal" people. On the flip side, when skinny is bashed it's very bashed.
i used to suffer from anorexia and bulimia, so I understand however I'm bigger now and still get stared at.
How about instead of staring, we just help. I know it's crazy but whether thyroid of fat, whether skinny or stress induced anorexia, how about we just help everyone regardless of issue?
You saying women need to look a certain way makes you a hypocrite. I'm all for health and exercise, but let people be however the fuck they want. All women are naturally a certain shape. They are all different and unique. Not all are going to be able to get muscular and toned, or some are born with health problems that will keep them from reaching that super athletic body you think is "ideal". YOU CAN NOT TELL IF A WOMAN IS UNHEALTHY JUST BY LOOKING AT HER! what, do you have ex ray eyes? Women's bodies are designed for child birth. Some are going to have a large hip/ass/stomach because her hormones tell her to protect her reproductive organs, besides, more cushion for the pushin! sincerely, ~fit athletic chick with an ass.
I don't think being unhealthy should be glorified, but neither should it ever be okay to bash someone for their weight. Unfortunately the nut jobs that go to one extreme or the other, always tend to yell the loudest. So we end up having to pick between the lesser of two evils.
If I have to choose a side then I would much rather fat be glorified, over people being prosecuted for their weight. If people want to try and convince themselves that fat is beautiful let them. It isn't like them delivering this false message will ever change the reality that others aren't going to find them attractive. Shaming people for being fat however is incredibly hurtful, and legal policies to make fat people pay more for things, is very anti freedom.
I agree with you! Being curvy is fine, but being obese with fat rolls isn't. That doesn't mean you have to be like Juliet Simms with abs, but you need to be healthy. Some girls think it's okay to weight 300 pounds and get mad when people say they are overweight. You aren't gross or ugly, but you aren't healthy.
We should be looking up to girls who eat a decent diet, but that doesn't mean they have to be like the girls who you posted. Some people have different body shapes, but still. This is teaching people it is okay to be obese, not thick or curvy. Curvy and thick is fine, with a decent diet and enough activities, but being flabby and obese isn't healthy or very much physically attractive.

I agree :) I think the media should start setting a better example with more female athletes. Women who eat well (with the occasional sweet), excersize, and are strong, powerful women both physically and in what they do.
The last thing we need is photoshopped models without pores, or over-weight women and calling them "curvy" when they actually weigh 300 pounds. I'm all for HEALTH
I know. When people say they are just curvy, they are pretty obese. Before, being curvy meant being a little thicker because of muscle or "big boned". You know, exercise five times a week and a healthy diet. Today people are using this as an excuse to be overweight.
If you notice the girl in the first picture isn't even obese, if anything, just slightly overweight. I would know because I was 200 pounds once upon a time, and now I'm 160 at 5'7, which is average or slightly above average.
I think body shaming for all body types is bad. You have fashion magazines making it seem like the only way to be good looking is to be skin and bone and anorexic and then for curvy/fat women you have this BS statement of real men only go for women with curves. Truth is men go for what they like just like how women go for what they like.
I agree while no one should feel ashamed for being fat, it shouldn't be celebrated either.
On a side note, it seems like a lot of girls on dating sites hide behind curvy when they're actually fat. They'll take put misleading pictures by taking only mugshots, pictures at angles or just outdated pictures and then when you see them in person they're fatter and they think you're shallow for being turned off. If you're fat, don't lie about it. People will either like what you have or they won't.

We should definitely stop making excuses for fat. It is not healthy and we already give thin people constant shame and can openly tell them they need to eat more.
Healthy at the moment gets shamed by the "big is beautiful" nonsense and is completely backwards. Instead of worrying about egos of the unhealthy we need to start working on the health of the overweight.
unfortunately, it is not in the medias corporate best interest to tell people to be healthy. If they convince people to stop eating fast food that industry would suffer, and American Government would rather keep it's people fat and stupid, than fit and smart. You are less likely to rise against if you are fat and stupid.
Well here in Canada we do not glorify bigger people or thinner people. We actually do want everyone to be healthy. If you would open Twitter or instagram, or maybe even a magazine, you will notice more and more that they are promoting ealthier lifestyles. If you read seventeen magazine, they promote healthy eating and exercise. In every issue of the magazine they actually give you a little pull out with different exercisesyou can do. And I can honestly say that I don't hear a lot in the media about thin people getting shamed, the majority of the people who are getting shamed are bigger people. I do agree that is is not healthy to be extremley thin or extremely big, but we have to stop shaming other people for their bodies. If you really want to start making a difference with obesity, then start with children. Get them eating healthier at a young age. Encourage them to make better, healthier choices.
I'm Canadian too and thin/healthy, I also see shaming all the time. People feel ok to say, "You need to eat more girl" or "You are to skinny" by big people, when I AM NOT to skinny, I am at a perfect weight for my height. It is shaming. You wouldn't say "You need to eat less girl" or "You are to fat" to a big girl (it seems people do say it to men, which is wrong.)
Media constantly pushes the idea that "Big is beautiful", and at the same time saying stuff like "Those skinny bitches" ( in all about the bass) is acceptable. It is a constant double standard for society to openly bash thin people but are attacked if they say anything about fat people.
The healthy living media is a completely different fish. It is outside the shaming argument because telling people how to live healthy is not fat shaming. But calling healthy people bitches, rakes, sticks, or any other negatively geared word, is shaming.
While you have valid points, I do disagree with some things. Big is beautiful and so is thin. I also believe that fit and healthy is beautiful. Maybe instead of telling people what they should be, you could encourage them. I do not believe in shaming anyone for any body type that they may have, I see it as a form of bullting. You can't say that the media is gorifying bigger women, because if they were then we would see bigger people on tv and in magazines modeling for big brand names. Whenever I open a magazine, I never see any bigger women in the best dressed sections, they are usually in the worst beach bods articles displayed on the front. I don't think people aspire to be obese, that has never been a body type that we look up to being. Also if the media was glorifying obese or plus-sized people, wouldn't you see more larger people in movies or on tv portraying a main character that we are supposed to like, not just think is funny (a general stereotype against larger people).
Also I do not believe that Meghan Trainor should have put that stuff in her song about smaller girls. I myself am not thin, but I do have a strong opinion about this issue. Like I've been saying, whether you are large, small, or fit, we should all just love our bodies and support each other.
I do not agree that big (or to thin) is beautiful... It is unhealthy and we should stop making excuses for it to shelter sensitive egos. Encouraging people to stay unhealthy is not right and those who believe you can be overweight and healthy are wrong, over weight is being OVER the healthy weight for your height. In regards to it not being glorified, we DO see the media putting big people on magazines (sports illustrated for example) and it becomes a massive news campaign about how great it is... But it's not, it's companies being forced to adhere to a standard simply to protect the fragile female ego... They don't do this for men. When men are fat, they are told they are fat and need to lose weight.
I agree you don't see many overweight main characters on TV, but when we do, it is turned into a media scapegoat for empowering the overweight. And healthy is not an unrealistic beauty standard.
No you shouldn't be looking up to any kind of figure. All you have to do is stay healthy and love yourself. Everyone has different body types and should be comfortable with themselves unless you feel as though you want to make a change. But don't hate yourself and get depressed and want to be like someone else that's just bullshit. If we raise children with confidence as they're growing then the media wouldn't really have that much of an affect on them. Rolls don't make you unhealthy you're just chubby so love it , skinny isn't always an eating disorder if anybody say otherwise fuck em lol

I've never been fat, but that brings me to my next point:
EVEN THIN PEOPLE ARE UNHEALTHY.
I've always been skinny.. but I've also always been athletic XD
I recently quit sugar (about a month ago) and I excersize every day.
I'm trying to get away from processed foods.
haha! It's so true that anyone who isn't clearly overweight nowadays is referred to as "skinny".
i.dailymail.co.uk/.../...4000005DC-278_224x602.jpg
What kind of health classes did you take?
I never said it was the cure for "everything". But, it is the cure for obesity.
I'm not talking about diabetes, or having one lung. I think you missed the point
No, I didn't miss the point. I got it loud and clear.
Yet you still think this take is about having one lung. Okay..
I just saw this and it's an interview, you should check it out. It basically say's what I was trying to say news.yahoo.com/...ts-illustrated-ad-164742765.html
HALF.
Why? Poor diet and lack of exercise.
Whatever, I really don't care.
This is an example of healthy:
thumbs.dreamstime.com/.../...dy-torso-17851549.jpg
Is she too thin? No. Is she overweight? No. She is a little bit to the thinner side, but people should maintain their BMI between 18 and 25. Just like recommended.
She has a slim figure, but she still clearly has body-fat and looks healthy. I would like to see more women like this in the media.
Exactly, I think she looks great and I think many people will agree. The most attractive figure is a healthy figure.
Yes, it is.
I think it's sad that a lot of people would call her a "stick" and tell her to eat more cheeseburgers.
THIS is a healthy, fit woman and people just don't want to accept that. Not every woman needs DD's and Kim Kardashian's ass to be beautiful.
Indeed. I think we totally agree on this subject :p
Key Guidelines for Adults
Adults should move more and sit less throughout the day. Some physical activity
is better than none. Adults who sit less and do any amount of moderate-to vigorous physical activity gain some health benefits.
For substantial health benefits, adults should do at least 150 minutes (2 hours and
30 minutes) to 300 minutes (5 hours) a week of moderate-intensity, or 75 minutes
(1 hour and 15 minutes) to 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) a week of
vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity, or an equivalent combination of
moderate- and vigorous-intensity aerobic activity. Preferably, aerobic activity
should be spread throughout the week.
Additional health benefits are gained by engaging in physical activity beyond
the equivalent of 300 minutes (5 hours) of moderate-intensity physical activity
a week.
Adults should also do muscle-strengthening activities of moderate or greater
intensity and that involve all major muscle groups on 2 or more days a week, as
these activities provide additional health benefits.
So while I agree with the obesity assessment, lets get the facts straight please.
I agree! I don't understand when fat is called "curvy". If someone doesn't have a healthy BMI then they shouldn't be called healthy.
Seriously, how dare people to call that curves?
You're just big, get over it.
@notverycreativeguy Who are you to judge her? She's perfectly fine.
@notverycreativeguy I am sorry to disappoint you, but one CAN actually be both.
@Anno_Domini Thank you :)
She's nowhere near perfectly fine.
And opinion owner you're right, one can be both - you're not though. But feel free to live in a little dream world.
@notverycreativeguy Let me guess... your ideal woman would be anorexic?
@notverycreativeguy If we ignore what you think of my body, why am I not fine? Because I am not sexually appealing to you? Because I am healthy, so in that way I am perfectly fine.
I agree with @Anno_Domini
@JCT666 Thank you.
@notverycreativeguy I would like you to explain why I am not fine, since you so profoundly claimed I wasn't.
Sorry to say but your instagram has no proper fruit, just sugars and sugars
@Tormentarian I like to bake, most of the times I don't eat it myself.
And no matter what I eat I stay under 1500 kcal.
Wow. People are so judgmental. It just proves that "skinny" girls aren't the only ones who think they're attacked.
@JCT666 People aren't so bad in real life, it's mostly just on the internet :)
u hav a pretty face! i will give u dat! i dont mean to offen u, but u will look WAY better if u trim around the belly!! i mean it, u will look HAWT!! if u are working on the figure, all the best. and if u r not, den i would really like to see u sexy. so please dont get down in any case!
also, i think u cannot do every thing a slim girl can..
feel free to criticize me. if not any thing, ur world will help me improve!
@chims04
As I wrote, I can't lose weight, no matter what I do.
@Anno_Domini i think its obvious he is 17 , even if he had said any thing different. wake up sherlock holmes!
@chims04 I only brought up his age because he called me out on mine. xD
For what it's worth, I think she's a very attractive lady just the way she is. Some people are naturally skinny, and some people aren't. There's nothing wrong with either as long as they are healthy.
@notverycreativeguy
If you "don't give a fuck" then why are you criticising her in the first place?
Just because you see a big girl loving herself and being happy does not mean she is promoting obesity.
look, this is obesity moroccantimes.com/.../obesity.jpg
this is obesity i.telegraph.co.uk/.../...raphics-2007-_652677a.jpg
People need to eat healthy and feel comfortable otherwise they are being reckless
Some are going to have a large hip/ass/stomach because her hormones tell her to protect her reproductive organs, besides, more cushion for the pushin!
sincerely,
~fit athletic chick with an ass.

Actually, you are in the "larger" category for women. Good job loosing the weight though ! :)
Haha. Thanks. I'm very proportionate, so its hard to see myself as overweight.
Very interesting article though, I agree, but at the same time we should just let people think what they want to think.
Really? Because I'm Canadian and I see body shaming all the time..
In the second comment I meant to say bullying. I find body shaming to be a form of bullying.
