Has anyone else gained weight on antidepressants?

I am taking effexor 75mg & i find that i do crave more than im suppose too. i know we need to change our diets & exercise but these cravings just drive me crazy & i want to lose weight :(. i gained at least 10 lbs. i was 130 lbs now 140 lbs.

usually people lose the weight easier i guess when off the meds. I did try wellbutrin because i heard you can lose appetite & weight but that didn't work for me because i became more depressed, suicidal, & psycho so i stopped it. effexor does work & makes me more happier, i know without it i will be depressed again. I can't stand the weight gain.

It's a very common side effect of many medicines with anti depressants and birth control being the worst offenders. Any time you control hormones you can change things like appetite and metabolism. In time it should hopefully even out. Or talk to your Dr. Mine has prescribed me ones that have neutral effect on weight due to already being overweight. But that doesn't mean just because it may have one less side effect that it is for you. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad, especially with something as delicate as mood stabilizers.
I personally would rather not be depressed or worse, than worry about a little weight in the long run.

Weight gain is a usual side effect of antidepressants. Have you ever considered taking sublingual B6 B12 and Folic Acid. Usually that helps a lot with depression, since depression is usually linked to low levels of these vitamins.

Of course if you ask your doctor about it, he/she won't tell you that it works since it isn't a drug. But, it's just a bit of advice from someone whose been using it for years and am no longer depressed :)

Did you ever tried Prozac , Klonopin, Abilify, Latuda

Zyprexa. I woke up one morning and I had no neck. I literally gained 2lbs a day. I went from 113lbs to 150 in about two months. I went off the medication and I lost it in less than 20 days. I still have the stretch marks on my thighs from gaining weight so fast. But that's the only one that I have gained weight from. I've been on thorazine, haldol, ripererdal, seroquel. I'm on Abilify and klonopin now. I'm now my original weight.

Right on. I'm glad I found this. Mental health has such a stigma to it , I don't really have anyone else who knows what it's like.

I've been on a lot of meds. My fave is latuda. I lost all the weight I put on with the seroquel and zyprexa and my triglycerides went down shortly as well. Try a weight neutral medicine before everything else. I'm bipolar so I have tried a lot of different types.

I take prozac ability and klonopin, all of which make you gain weight. I've gained about 10 pounds because of it too, hopefully you'll get used to it and adjust and it will stop

Check to see if your anemic, low iron will make you have less energy , and you won't feel good then you can get dizzy spells, and other symptoms of just weak and tired. You're still young and have a young woman's metoblisim. I don't know if you are in the thumbnail picture but 10 extra pounds isn't hurting your looks.

I didn't gain any weight at all but everybody else I knew gained weight.

Its a side effect most andi depressabts have. My sister has gained weight too but She just accepts it, there's no other choice
