I have an irregular period and when I get it, it is heavy and mostly clots... what could this be? I also have an ovarian cyst and probably PCOS (runs in family).

Menstrual flow varies from woman to woman. Even for the same person, the flow may vary over time. The exact reason why is unknown. So I am afraid I can't really answer that question.

If you have a lot of clots it may be that you are dehydrated. It is recommended to drink at least 2 liters or more of fluids each day.

PCOS may be contributing to your irregularity. You may want to consult an endocrinologist as well as your ob/gyn.
