I think that it's important to seek help if you have problems. Some people talk about their problems with their family and friends, some ask for advice from the priests of their religion, some express themselves through writing, singing or drawing. But some people don't have the comforts I mentioned above. They might be orphans or have no friends or not have a religion or they think their family and friends will not understand them. They may have deeply rooted psychological problems, various problems combined, problems caused by chemical imbalances or chronic or too serious problems, like depression or suicidal thoughts.
To sum up, I believe that when a person has problems, he shouldn't keep them hidden and he should want to become better. He should talk about them and reveive all the help he can get. If that means going to a psychiatrist or a psychologist, why not. People live in societies because they need each other, otherwise we'd be living alone in the wilderness. I 've gone to the psychiatrist for two periods of my life. The first time was when I was 12 and my father died and the second time at 16, because I was constantly fighting with my family.

People who study mental health can't help people that they have no relationship with. There are far quicker and cheaper ways to deal with stress, and the are far closer people in my life I would talk to about serious problems if I had them. For a counselor to legitimately help me with a small problem that may arise, they'd have to know me for probably about 5 years as a good friend outside of their work before they could even make an attempt. So basically that profession is pretty worthless. You can't get to someone's real emotions by having them pay you money.
I see nothing to hide. I will bet that the spikes in mental illness will be attributed to pollutants. There is evidence that the drop in crime in the US and Canada coincides with the ban on leaded gasoline. All the toxic crap we eat, drink and breathe will probably be found to harm the brain and contribute to mental illness.
