Yes, they do. I've used one. I am so sore afterwards. Maybe you never got the right one... if you turn it up to the highest setting... it practically drops you to the floor.

I have used it and been extremely sore, just like doing 1000 situps, just while sitting in a chair... and sometimes I am forced to stand up, and it drops me to the floor when it's on the highest setting. They really do work.
