Anonymous(36-45)+1 yIt's not as much a matter of weight as it is the level of body fat you have. Be sure to do research on this so you can learn what it takes to cut to a level where you have the abs you want.
Keep in mind though that when you hear people say "6-pack abs are overrated", they're not joking. In order to get there, you need to get into the single digit body fat level. But once you get there, you have to MAINTAIN that level. Even people that do physique competitions don't stay in that level all year long. They will begin cutting a few months prior to competition, make last minute fine tunings and corrections, go to the competition, and then move back to a more reasonable and manageable diet/exercise level.
Abs are made as much in the kitchen as they are in the gym.014 Reply
Asker+1 yAlright thanks man that last bit of they're made in the kitchen as much as the gym was actually super helpful I know for me personally if I do achieve abs I'm gonna work my ass of to keep them I don't care what it takes lol.
Opinion Owner+1 yYou say that now, but trust me- life does get in the way. Unless you are a professional athlete or professional body builder, the balance needed to keep them in that "perfect condition" is very difficult and usually not worth it since they're covered most of the time.
Getting your abs to look shredded means that you need to be in single digit body fat percentages, as I mentioned. But the balance is that you can't go too low, otherwise you're risking your health. So riding that fine line is the struggle you face. Do too much, and you're malnourished. Do too little or slip up when life gets in the way, and they start going back to "normal".
I just recently went through a cut phase to see how cut up I could get before switching back to a clean bulk phase. It is very tough to fine tune them into place, so I can only imagine what it would be like trying to constantly maintain them.
Asker+1 yWhy is it so difficult to maintain a lower body fat %? I thought that if you get to it usually it's not super difficult to maintain?
Opinion Owner+1 yIt's because your body doesn't naturally want to maintain that low of body fat %. Your body is built for survival, and maintaining low body fat is dangerous and risky should you suddenly be deprived of food. Obviously, you know you're surrounded by food and won't be without it. But your body's automatic functions do not, it only knows what it knows.
I liken it to trying to keep a life vest underwater- you're fighting something that just isn't going to stop. Comparing that to your body fat, it's not going to get out of control and fly away. But trying to keep it too low, and it'll fight you to get back to a safer level.
Asker+1 yThat's a really good analogy lol. So what you're saying is pretty much it's only worth working your ass off for abs during the summer months?
Opinion Owner+1 yPretty much, and even then the summer months are a pretty long period of time. But it's worth chasing this goal if you really want it. Not only to learn how your body responds to diet/exercise (which is WAY more valuable than 6-pack abs), but to get first hand experience of the effort required so you know what I'm talking about lol
Asker+1 yAlright thanks man this was hella helpful you seem to know what you're talking about but kind of unrelated, is there any supplements you would recommend since you seem to have some experience here.
Opinion Owner+1 yI'd say stay natural with as much as you can unless you need to supplement. Many people forget and don't pay attention to the fact that the word is SUPPLEMENT, not replacement or whatever. Many supplements won't really harm you by taking them, but you can save money and get better quality nutrients from food as opposed to supplements.
Only add supplements in once you get to a point where reaching a particular goal (caloric intake, vitamin intake, experiencing joint problems, post-workout recovery, etc.) is hard to manage. I don't know where you're at with your diet and exercise right now, so I don't really know what to recommend you other than a pre-workout.
I take Muscle Pharm's Assault brand of PWO and it's amazing. I get such a rush of energy from it that I'd recommend it to most non-casual gym goers. There are tons of other PWO's out there, but I'm a big fan of MP's.
Asker+1 yI was thinking of picking up a fat burner mainly because I have pre existing injuries from Lacrosse (I've got a bad shoulder and a bad knee) So I thought it would just be a little easier to get down to 180 using a fat burner what are your thoughts on that?
Opinion Owner+1 yCouldn't tell you too much at all about them. I've never had to do massive cuts as I'm a smaller built dude. But again, the guys I know that do body building still tend to stick to natural methods, mainly a cutting diet. There is a difference between a weight loss diet vs. a body fat cutting diet, though. So be aware of that as you read up on all of this.
Asker+1 yAlright thanks man, I just want to lose the little bit of fat I have left quickly without losing a lot of muscle.
- +1 y
I've used some mild fat burners, they help a little, but i wouldn't touch them with your age.
Asker+1 y@kheserthorpe Well I'm 17 and I've already stopped growing and I'm a healthy guy like I said I'm 5'11 190 pounds so I would be okay right?
Opinion Owner+1 yIf my stalking skills are still good, I believe @kheserthorpe has done (or does) boxing in his time. So he's a really good resource for weight management with having to make certain weight classes and all.
And as he mentioned (and I've mentioned lol), don't bother with taking every supplement you can think of when you can just as easily resort to natural methods, which give you much better quality of results anyway. Supplement when you can't reasonably achieve a goal using natural means alone. There's no need to use fat burners to manage your weight when all you have to do is learn proper dieting.

+1 yYou just got to start cutting, counting calories and maybe start doing cardio. Basically don't stop lifting, keep doing ab exercises, and keep getting your daily intake of protein, while burning more calories than you're consuming. As you start to loose weight (you will loose some muscle but it doesn't need to be much) you'll start seeing abs more, nobody can tell you exactly how much weight you need to loose though.
Asker+1 yAlright thanks homie I kind of stopped cutting calories because I thought I had to solely work out in order to get to the abs so I'll just have to start doing that again
+1 yI think if you keep on doing exercises for abs you'll be good because a lot of my guy friends are exactly like you and most of them have abs :P

Asker+1 yLike 5'11 190? I think if I was 6'0 tall I would be ideal weight but because I'm only 5'11 I could afford to lose a little bit of weight cause right now I'm doing like 2 sets of 100 sit ups and other random exercises but I'm not really getting anywhere ya know?

You seem like you know what to do :) but I think having abs is cool but something not ALL men need to have :) But if you want abs then go for it :D
Asker+1 yYa I really really want abs right now lol.
+1 yJust do abs 4-5 times a week starting TODAY and you will see results by the time that it's summer.
Asker+1 yI want them nnnnooooooowwww though lol. I'm pretty much doing that right now like every time I work out I do abs regardless of what else I'm doing any other tips?

Eat really clean!! Eat a lot of protein, have at least 5 eggwhites in the morning and 5 at night. or have them all in the morning, just as long as you are getting that protein to stay lean. You'll see results a lot faster if you're eating good than if you're eating poorly. Just keep at it and don't give up! If it's not working fast enough for you double up your ab workouts. Make your planks longer. Make the sets longer for each exercise you do during your ab workouts.

It doesn't happen over night. you have to be patient and focused and determined not to give up. It takes time.

abs my broski are not about weight in that sense, abs are more to to with the persons ratio of body muscle to fat ratio. Pretty much the less fat overall body fat in the ratio you have the more you are going to look "ripped" and the higher the chane of ahciveing the 6 pack look. Pretty much you should work on being leaner.

Asker+1 ySo I should keep working out but try to lose some weight?
Asker+1 yOkay so I've just gotta keep working out and cutting calories?
Asker+1 ySo like take in like between 1700-2000 calories a day?
Asker+1 yYa because I'm only 17 I searched it up and I should be eating about 2500-2700 calories a day so ya if I was to cut out about 500 I'd be around 2000 right. But what do you mean by how the food is prepared?
Asker+1 yAh I see what you mean so just eat healthy overall pretty much?
Try changing your eating habits if you aren't already... Half the battle is with nutrition and healthy foods but on too of that cardio will help. But don't worry to muh they will come with time but you probably don't want to cut back on weight so take it slow... And seems like you know what your doing so you'll know your not just ganna grow and overnight a few months should give you good results but will only get better with the effort and time put into it just like any other body part

Asker+1 yYa I decided to buy a fat burner and start dieting again (I kind of stopped dieting and instead was just working out) I bought the fat burner because it makes it so you don't lose much muscle by dieting which at this point I obviously don't want to do. But thanks man.
+1 ySpot training is a myth. Just eat less calories, and eventually you'll lose fat if you keep working out. My brother just has a really fast metabolism and he doesn't work out but he has a six pack.
Asker+1 yWell I know spot training is a myth but that's why I'm asking about what weight I should be to get good abs not the skinny guy weird looking abs
it really doesn't matter. all that matters is your muscle mas basically. there are lots of skinny people who are muscular
01 Reply
Asker+1 yYa that's what people are saying so it's looking like I've gotta cut out calories while working out to get the abs.
You have abs.
lose the belly fat and I would say 180 range depending on how muscular you are. I would focus on your percent body fat though man.01 Reply
Asker+1 yAlright thanks homie I was thinking 180 is probably the weight I need to get to.
Everyones body is different. You have abs, you just have fat covering it. You're gonna have to cut down your body fat to reveal them.

Asker+1 yI checked it and the two tests I did were 15% and 17% so I think 16% is fair to say.

The fastest way to get abs is to lose fat and not by trying to gain muscle (doing ab exercises lol)
The numbers given... Your weight 188lbs - 192lbs average of 190lbs with 16% bf therefore you have 30.4lbs of bodyfat with a lean body mass of approximately 160lbs
ergo: You'll have to lose 10lbs of fat in order to have 12% bodyfat (starting to see abs) and therefore you'll be 180lbs with approximately 20lbs of fat.
You'll have to lose 12lbs of fat in order to have 10% bodyfat (defined abs) and therefore you'll be 178lbs with approximate 18lbs of bodyfat.
Go on a caloric deficit and use the fitnesspal app to keep track of your macros.
Asker+1 yAlright thanks man so I'm glad to see I don't have much further to go :) And that I'm not a fat fuck lol
Asker+1 ySorry homie while you were super helpful there was one other guy who was a little tiny bit more helpful than you but literally it was like his one comment was only a little tiny bit better than yours lol. But ya that's what a lot of my buddies say and from what I can see I agree I know one of my buddies has been working out since like grade 10 and literally in 6 months I've got arms as big as his and I'm stronger than him he's just got a little bit better definition in his chest and abs. Again sorry for no MHO lol
Asker+1 ySorry homie I liked what he said but I also liked what you said I just found what he said a little better is all.
Asker+1 yYo bro do you use any supplements that you could recommend?
Asker+1 yThanks homie
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yI do not exercise but I am about 5-7% body fat and I have abs.

Asker+1 yYa but that's not what I want you have abs but you're not going to be a muscular looking guy you're just going to look like a normal guy who is going to happen to have abs and girls don't really like that.
Opinion Owner+1 yHow about you let girls decide what they want?
Asker+1 yWell I can pretty much guarantee I have more kills than you so that's a way to tell ;)
Opinion Owner+1 yYeah but I am always in relationships with 10s. I am the man whose girl is the Queen and the original.
Go ahead and keep your 'kills' with your replicas whom look up to my woman wishing that they could be her.
I am the man they love and want to marry and you're the boy who they hate because you screwed them over.
Want to know why? Because I am a high quality authentic original and you are just a cheap knock-off.
You're not smarter than me. You're not better than me. You may show your brawn by using your muscles, but I use my brain by utilizing use gravity and a fulcrum. I am going to own you. I am going to dominate you.
So get behind me because I am your master. You follow me.
Asker+1 yOr I've got a 93% average and I've got a lacrosse scholarship lined up so I'm just overall a legend ;)
Opinion Owner+1 yI am the one whose name is on and sponsors your precious scholarships.
I fund your scholarships and I own you.

Asker+1 yHow tall are you?
Asker+1 yYou will literally die at 70 pounds I hope you're kidding around.
Drop down to like 160-165.
Asker+1 yI've got a decently big build though man and right now I look really muscular and fit I feel like 160 would be way to low, right now my body fat % is about 16 so knowing this do you still think about 165?
Asker+1 yThat's true lol it's not like I have to go all the way to 160 If I get to 185 and I get the abs then obviously stop but like you said if not I can just keep going.
it depends on your build
