Why do doctors act so clueless?

Every time I have a doctor appointment or have an ER visit, they ask the basics (Height, weight, what meds I'm taking).

So after the nurse asks the basics, she asks when my last period was. Well since I'm using depo, I don't have periods anymore.

WHY do they always say "What's the reason?" Or something along those lines? Do they not know depo eliminates periods? They went to med school for 6-8 years, right?

They do this to me a lot. Quite annoying.

I'm currently in med school. It's stuff we are trained to ask every single time. It's just a standard we have to follow, so we make sure we don't miss anything. Yes, they are super basic questions and they are annoying (probably more to the docs since they have to ask the same questions a countless number of times), but every now and then they might be of real importance regarding someone's health. It's just a checklist, that's all.

to further answer your question about depo. We are trained to think of all of our patients as if they know nothing at all. So lets say a woman comes in and is on depo, but there are complications and she bleeds. The woman mught be ignorant of the fact that depo stops your periods so she might see the bleeding as her period even though it's something serious. The doctor doesn't ask her about her last period and thus misses something hat could potentially be something serious. Make sense?

Are you sure they're not asking what's the reason you're taking depo shots? I know it sounds dumb but there's more than the one obvious reason to take birth control.

But yeah I've noticed a lot of doctors and nurses are fucking morons. Don't get me started

I'm using it because I had heavy periods and they made me anemic. Not sexually active.

I would know if they're asking me why I'm talking it. They never ask that so I don't know.
