I just read another thread where they told the girl that protein shakes would make her fat. Is that true?
Do protein shakes make you fat?

Protein shakes will work well but as long as they are high in carbohydrates or sugar. You should see a doctor about embarking on your weight loss journey because substituting the wrong thing in switching to shakes on can cause serious damage and backfire if you don't know which one to use and how they work.
You'd have better luck asking questions on a weight loss site and you could join a community for support.
Personally I'm a big fan of online weight watchers because it allows you to journal everyday your intake, and teaches you how to eat properly for life and yes it's slower than a high protein diet ( low carb, no sugar ) but it will be teaching you the healthy way to keep eating for life.
This is just a temporary ( 1 month ) diet to get me to surgery
Okay, I understand now. You're having bariatric surgery. I'm surprised your doctor didn't give you the shakes or tell you which ones to use. If you want message me and I can send you a fantastic soup recipe that you can eat as much as you want! One of my friends has the surgery and it has helped her tremendously! I imagine you're scared but excited at the same time! I hope it gives you the help to recover your life back and feel good. :)
Yes! He just recommended a whey formula and that's what I got. I'm just really worried since all I'm eating ( drinking) is two a day and then I have a chicken salad at night. I don't eat anything other than that and I lost a few lbs but now I'm afraid I'll just get bigger since I am wheelchair bound and cannot workout
So my protein shakes won't make me gain?
They shouldn't if you're following the doctors orders. You'll be on a liquid diet for about a month after surgery but it will not be protein shakes.
You should join an online community to talk with other people who've has bariatric surgery. It would help with support and you'll get better answers to your questions.
Protein shakes are used by people who work out a lot but need to gain mass so that they can "bulk up" and build muscle but if you don't work out hard enough I guess the protein is left unused and can be stored as fat.
It's true protein is what makes muscles but muscles don't just grow by way of consuming proteins, you need to have hardcore gymming sessions to help them grow.
I don't think you're intention is to gain muscle mass- so I'd suggest not having protein shakes so you can just focus on slimming down if that's your goal. :)
But I'm not eating anything
I'm just drinking two shakes a day
How will that make me bigger?
Each shake is 120 cals
With the exception of those made specifically for weight gain (and you'll know which one they are because they advertise it on the packaging), protein shakes do not have anything that makes you gain weight. They are purely supplemental protein. Nothing more, nothing less. And they contain 100-150 calories per serving as long as you make them with water and not milk.
Whey protein is for exercising. You should exercise and by liquid I think they meant drink a lot of water and eat less.
No, they meant a liquid diet. Broths and things like that. I'm having gastric bypass soon but I have to drop a lot a weight to make it safer
I'm only 23 and weigh 378 lbs
I have a hormonal disorder which is making it harder for me to keep weight off so my doctor though gastric was the best idea
I'm just asking because that's what the doctor left me with the list says things like broth, jelly, water, protein shakes with water , etc

No they don't, but you have to watch out they don't put any other kind of stuff in it like fat, carbs, sugar etc. That often happends. It's the purpose of those shakes to build muscle (so great in combination with working out) and to fuel your body with protein instead of fat or sugar.
No, they don't. I don't think Whey protein is a good one though. What I would suggest you do is eat small healthy meals during the day and exercise.
By the latter, if you don't want to hit the gym or go running outside, you can do some simple exercises in your house. I like playing Dance Central---It's truly a workout. :D
They won't make you fat. Now if you drink like 5 or 6 in a day and aren't doing any kind of exercise then yes those calories will add up fast and that can make you fat.
It's all about portion control. What helped me most was cutting out sugars and drinking more water. Turns out that urge to snack can stem from dehydration.
First of all: diet needs to be accompanied by exercise. And secondly, protein helps you build a little muscle, and muscle helps burn calories sort of the same way muscle cars burn more gas for the same distance. Drink *some* protein, do *some* weights, and *a lot* of cardio (treadmill, elliptical, and bike).
Remember that if you start to get more muscle than you wanted, you can stop focusing on that area. You would really have to go crazy to over-do lower body 😜
This is if you don't work out. The whey proteins repair the bodies muscles, if there is no muscles and you are only sedentary then it will cause issue. Also with european or white decent the members of that race usually have problems digesting whey protein since it is made out of milk. I would suggest casein protein, 1because it is cheap and 2 because you don't bloat as long as you don't use milk and only use water
No. And why would you go on a liquid diet? Is that some new-age, anti-scientific cleansing bullshit? Protein shakes don't make you fat, eating and drinking too much does.
Read explanation below
No, just make it with water. And liquid diets aren't healthy, just watch what you eat, don't eat junk food or a lot of carbs eat a lot of fresh food and protein and exercise as much as you can
Read above
Ok well just watch what you eat and exercise
Your body needs a daily intake of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. It varies based on how much energy you burn. Too much intake, including from protein, can result in it being stored as fat.
Some protein shakes have a LOT of sugar in them. There are sugar free protein shakes. Your body "can" turn protein into carbohydrates (It can't turn carbs into protein), but you really need protein, especially when dieting.
protein shakes are fuel for muscles, in fact if you are taking a good protein diet then there is no need of them, they are just supplements, before buying a protein supplement just look at the nutritional info and see the fat content
It's made to exercise and build more muscle, if you just drink it it won't make you lose weight.
wtf how would they even...
protein helps build muscle; you can't build muscle under a layer of fat.
Read explanation below
ni... they help buildin muscle only i guess 8)
Probably, but I'm not sure.
Too much protein can make you gain weight.
no, they help expand muscle.
Go away troll
