Please be real: is it really possible to have your periods when you're pregnant or not?

We've heard both ways. Most people say no but we've heard some people say yes it is possible on the other hand. Which one is the real? My friend needs to know and she hasn't gone to her doctor because she's unsure and she's afraid to go and get that outcome where something happens.

I don't think it would be. Part of the menstrual cycle is to flush out unused eggs. Periods are really ( in a small scientific way) similar to an abortion. So if you are having a period when you are supposed to be pregnant then you are not pregnant. Its part of the reason why periods stop altogether with pregnancy, to protect the egg from existing the body, and start the female's body's one of many functions of child birth. Thats why when women "miss" their periods, its either a case of some kind of sickness, or pregnancy

The period is for washing away the wall of the uterus. A fertilized egg attaches to this film on the wall of the uterus and provides an enviorment for the egg to develop. If there is no fertilized egg the lining goes away, the period and is replaced with a new one. If you are pregnant the lining on the wall is being used and no reason to be washed away.

Yes it's possible, but not as common as it is to not have your period. I didn't bleed for my whole pregnancy, but I know friends who have had light to regular periods during their, pregnancies.

And don't listen to these people. Lol really how can a 15 year old girl k ow what she's talking about, or a man who clearly can never get pregnant. I'm telling you. It, is very possible to still bleed whole pregnant, and sometimes it's harmless. But, other times it can be very dangerous. If she hasn't done so already; your friend needs to take a pregnancy test to confirm if she's pregnant, and if she is; she needs to go to the doctor to make sure she's not having a miscarriage.

Um actually I know a lot of things about pregnancy because the whole process is just interesting to me. Anything is possible. I know that you can have a period during pregnancy or that you may not. I may be just 15 but I know more than you think I do.

Yes because I'm sure you have had in depth conversation with your doctor about being pregnant, and have taken extensive courses on human growth and development. There's a lot more about, pregnancy than one can find stalking the wte groups.

If she thinks it's a miscarriage she needs to go to her doctor to have tests and ultrasounds. If there is no heartbeat/ no sign of growth she may need a d&c.
Often the rule of thumb is light bleeding with no other symptoms is generally safe, while heavy bleeding accompanied with pain is symptoms of a, miscarriage.

I'd advise her to get medical treatment. Moderate bleeding at 16-20 weeks pregnant can be a very bad sign, especially if she didn't bleed at all during her first trimester. An ultrasound can verify everything she needs to know.
Does she not have regular prenatal care?

If it's an ectopic pregnancy then yeah. If you have a baby in your uterus you could have spotting, but a period is not normal for a normal pregnancy.

You can't have your menstrual period while you're pregnant. Some women do have vaginal bleeding during pregnancy. Some even report intermittent bleeding that seems like a regular period to them. But vaginal bleeding during pregnancy is not the same thing as menstruation.

Yes... My Grabdma still tells the story of only having five lbs and giving birth to my Aunt just after her period.

Had her period every month until she gave birth.

The baby actually weighed a bit more than my Grandma gained... But a healthy fetus will drain the nutrients from the mother before the body gets desperate enough to force a miscarriage. Don't worry.

Well it is not possible to have your period when you are pregnant but if you are bleeding from the down below area and you know you r pregnant there could be something wrong with the baby or you body could be handing the pregnancy in a way that is unusual eather way I would go to the doctor.
