Your experience with wisdom tooth removal?

I already had the surgery last Thursday and was wondering a few things.

Is it normal my stitches are really itchy? NHow long should it take for the wounds to heal fully? Will I get dry socket if I brush and use the antibiotic +rinse they prescribed? When should my facial swelling go down?

It wasn't too bad, but I barely ate (which sucked)

I didn't even use the hardcore painkillers they gave me

It's normal for the stitches to itch, or to be irritating in some way. It's great when they are removed. Sometimes they use some kind of glue or something that hardens and comes off when the stitches come out.

I followed the instructions and I did not get dry socket. Keep the area clean and follow the instructions.

The swelling should go down after a few days. If you're still swollen after a week, tell your dentist to see if that's normal.

I only had to take the strong painkillers the first day, afterwards regular OTC stuff worked fine. But I had to take it often.

Pudding, soup, and nutritional drinks like Ensure are your friends.

I'm getting them removed in two days. I can't wait. I've been doing the oral antiseptic thing they gave me three times a day and brush frequently.

It's day 5 and the swelling is almost completely gone, I'm so happy.

Ensures are great! But I can't wait for real food again haha.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed at once. They gave me percecet, which lasted a few days. I quickly learned that avoiding talking completely helped a whole lot. I think all in all the pain stopped being particularly noticeable after about two weeks.

I was put under anesthesia when they did the removal. When I woke up, I wasn't in a lot of pain. Even the next day there wasn't much pain, it was just annoying with the amount of blood and saliva I was producing. I think it only last less than a week before I was back to normal. I heal pretty fast (except my stomach).

It's normal if your stitches itch, but make sure it's not too bad or else go back to get them checked. I didn't get dry socket and the facial swelling went down by day 3 or 4. Everyone heals at different rates, so I would just follow the steps they told you to do. I hope you feel better soon! :)

Oh and I didn't take any pain killers. I normally don't take any medicine at all, not even Tylenol.

Your experience is almost as identical to mine, same! I didn't use the heavy painkiller at all after the first day because all it did was make me throw up.

Today is day 6, I'm getting my stitches out in the afternoon and the swelling is almost completely gone! I get minor headaches every few days though but nothing some Advil won't fix :) thank you so much!

Yeah I have a genetic disorder in my stomach, so I can't really take meds. I just deal with the pain (which I'm not in much thankfully unless I break my bones).

It took a good two weeks for the sockets to close. The itching in your stitches is normal - it means they're healing.

I was prescribed some kind of opiate which didn't actually help with the pain; it just made me dopey. I only took that the first few days.

I very nearly starved to death that first week when everything is so tender and raw, but it didn't take long to heal. I didn't swell very much. Your swelling should go down when your stitches start to come out.

I've already lost three pounds in a week, this isn't good XD

And tomorrow I get my stitches out and my face is almost completely back to normal, thank god. I can't wait until the yellow bruises leave, too. Those look terrible.

It was a great time for the most part. Spent most of the time high as a kite, watched a ton of TV, was high as a kite, ate delicious soups and soft foods, was high as a kite for most of the time...

I did get a dry socket later on, but they fixed it pretty quick.

It was great.

Lucky you, they gave me Vicodin which made me throw up violently every time I tried to take it, even with food. So far I've been managing just fine with no painkillers!

I had vicodin too, sometimes it just doesn't agree with certain people. The weird thing was that my dry socket was excruciating, even with the vicodin, but ibuprofen knocked the pain out like magic almost. It was weird.

I guess it didn't with me haha. I've also never been under anesthesia or had heavy painkillers before.

I've been using ibuprofen, about 400 mg every other day (which is close to nothing) and I feel no pain. I'm just curious why certain people need the heavier stuff, because I'm a total wimp and fine without it.

It's day 5 after surgery and I still haven't gotten dry socket, so hopefully I'm clear!

I took some painkillers the first day, and ate crushed potatoes with spinach and lots of lasagne for some days. But there was nothing itching with the stitches. Nor was there facial swelling.

You're lucky! My mouth is very small, and instead of opening it up behind my second molars to get at them, they cut open my gums and the sides of my cheeks to get all the impacted ones out. I guess that's why my cheeks swelled terribly.

They give you pain killers that put you to sleep during the operation so you won't have any clue you are being operated on. It was the easiest thing I ever did.

You might be allergic to the sticks my face swell pretty good and it hurt a lot
