Questions about progestin only birth control?

I started the progestin only birth control pills ( or the mini pill) & Apparently Im not supposed to skip the last week of pills. Does this mean I won't get a period? is it true that there are barely any side effects (breast tenderness, weight gain..) ? Is it true that its not that effective as the combination pill?

Most side effects of the progestin-only birth control methods go away after the first few months of use. Side effects include:

Irregular menstrual cycles.
Spotting or bleeding between menstrual periods.
Sore breasts.
Headache.
Nausea.
Dizziness.
Bloating or weight gain, especially with the birth control shot.
No menstrual periods. Although mini-pill use can stop periods, the shot is most likely to do so.
Less common progestin side effects include depression and darkening of the skin on the upper lip, under the eyes, or on the forehead (chloasma).

at some point it mentions it's less effective (yet slightly) than combination pill... when it comes preventin pregnancy:

" The mini-pill may be slightly less effective at preventing pregnancy than combination pills."
