You can lose weight without exercise eating a healthy diet. But it's slow and it has to be super healthy... so your only other option is to do cardio.
Studies found that people who eat breakfast along with proper diet plan will actually lose weight faster than people who skip it.
There is no safe portion size. Depends on how much fat's in in it. E. g. that tiny cup of coleslaw you get at take out restaurants has like 300 calories. Note a lot of sauces are super high in calories. Like ranch dressing is basically 50% fat.
If it's fruit eat all you want.
Personally on a super sedentary day I walk about an hour so maybe you could add some more exercise...
